At Parc Circle in North Charleston, trees down, bleachers damaged, fence mangled, and scoreboard destroyed. The damage was $25,000.
Thunderstorm producing large "clumps" of hail accompanied passage of tornado.
A tornado, described as a big white twisting cloud, picked up two mobile homes, twisted them in the air and tore them apart; six other mobile homes were damaged. Three girls who saw the approaching tornado vacated one of the mobile homes before it was picked up and destroyed; a woman was thrown out of another mobile home and seriously injured. Three homes, six cars, and two businesses were damaged, also power lines and trees were downed, and eleven people (eight treated at local hospital and released) received minor injuries. The roof was blown off a lumber company's Show Room.
A rotating thunderstorm moved from central Greenville County across Spartanburg County and Cherokee County before weakening. Although it contained a well defined wall cloud and funnel cloud south of the Greenville/Spartanburg Airport it did not become severe until it reached eastern Spartanburg County. There it produced large hail and some wind damage in the form of downed trees and power lines. At least one tree fell on a car and power was knocked out to about 1,000 people for several hours.
