A warm front moved northeast through northern New York during the early morning hours of July 9th resulting in severe thunderstorms across parts of the area. Thunderstorm winds downed powerlines in Gouverneur and trees and powerlines in Wadhams and Westport. In Canton lightning started a fire which destroyed a garage and three cars.

A cold front moved into eastern New York during the late afternoon and evening hours of July 9th resulting in severe thunderstorms across much of the area. Thunderstorm winds downed trees and powerlines with the hardest hit areas being Oneida, Herkimer, southern Saratoga, and Rensselaer Counties. In all over 30,000 customers were left without power as severe thunderstorms struck parts of the area for the third day in a row. In Dresden a woman was struck and injured by lightning as she was exiting a tent while camping. In Binghamton thunderstorm winds removed part of the roof of the Binghamton Plaza K-mart. While in Scotia torrential rains caused storm drains to back up resulting in street flooding.
