A 24 foot long sailboat capsized during a severe thunderstorm on the Delaware River. The boat set sail from Pyne Poynt Marina in Camden. One person on board drowned when he became entangled in the lines and was submerged beneath the capsized boat. (M53O)
A SKYWARN Spotter measured a wind gust to 61 mph.
A severe thunderstorm knocked down numerous trees in Hackettstown. A roof was blown off a house onto U.S. Route 46. Sheet metal was wrapped around sign posts on Main Street. Wind gusts were estimated at 70 mph.
Trees and power lines were toppled throughout the county. One of the hardest hit areas was Byram Township.

Trees were reported uprooted in the northeast part of the county.
A tornado briefly touched down in the village of Loch Arbour around 6 pm EST at the intersection of Euclid and Edgemont Avenues. The tornado lifted between Spier and Corlies Avenue about 100 yards from the Atlantic Ocean. About five homes on Euclid Avenue suffered substantial roof damage. Most of the eight other homes which sustained minor damage were on Buena Vista Court. About two dozen trees were uprooted. Most of them were decaying within. Tops were sheared off a number of other trees. Damage was estimated at $75,000.
