A cold front moving across the area triggered a thunderstorm that produced some large hail for a short period along the coast.

Numerous trees were uprooted throughout Pitman. Just east of Pitman in Washington twenty trees were uprooted. Seven fell on homes. The wind also caused a partial building collapse at a driving range at the Summerton Springs Golf Campus.

Damaging wind gusts uprooted several trees and downed power lines on Long Beach Island. About 3,750 homes and businesses lost power. Frequent lightning struck and damaged four homes, causing mainly chimney damage. Lightning struck the Surf City Police Office. A male dispatcher was knocked out of his chair and hurled across the room. The lightning strike crippled the town's 911 system and emergency generator.
