842, October 24, 1st hour of the night. Throughout almost all the north of Gaul. The accompanying subterranean noise lasted seven days. Attended with subterranean noise, which was heard either at the first hour of the day, or at the ninth, or in the middle of the night or beginning of the morning. Followed by a severe "tussis," of which many died. (reference #1879)
842, October 24. Channel Islands (49.5 N, 02.5 W) and northern France. Local earthquake. The shock threw down the monuments... and also engulfed the seashore of the neighboring continent. (reference #43)
