June 4, 2020 Earthquake: Morotai, North Maluku, Indonesia

Six sub-districts in the Morotai Islands Regency, North Maluku Province (Malut) were affected when the M6.8 earthquake occurred last Thursday (4/6). The local BNPB noted that hundreds of houses were damaged to varying degrees.

Data as of Saturday (6/6), 11.39 West Indonesia Time, the earthquake caused damage in six districts, namely South Morotai, East Morotai, North Morotai, Morotai Jaya, South West Morotai and Rau Island. A total of 14 houses were severely damaged, with 7 units Morotai Jaya, North Morotai 6 and South Morotai 1.

Total damage to the houses reached 312 units, with details of 264 slightly damaged, 34 moderately damaged and 14 severely damaged. While public facilities, the local BPBD recorded 12 damaged units. Affected residents reached 143 families.

An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.8 shook the North Maluku region on Thursday (4/6) at 15.49.40 West Indonesia Time. The earthquake epicenter was at coordinates 2.93 NU and 128.19 East, or rather at sea at a distance of 99 km north of Daruba City, Morotai Island, North Maluku at a depth of 111 km.

The earthquake shocks were felt in Morotai on an MMI IV intensity scale and made residents run out of the house.

Whereas in Manado, Bitung, Minahasa, Bolmong, Ternate, Sitaro, Tahuna, Tobelo, Sofifi, and Talaud the shocks were felt on an intensity scale II-III MMI.
