November 18, 2017 Earthquake: Morotai, North Maluku, Indonesia

Earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter Scale that shook Morotai, North Maluku , causing casualties 1 person. The quake did not trigger a tsunami but caused 294 buildings damaged.

Head of BPBD Kabupaten Morotai Island Dalik Gafur said as many as 486 people from Leoleo Rao Village, 75 Heads of Families from Aru Burung Village and Lou Madoro Village are currently still displaced in the elevation area around the local villages.

Dalik said the earthquake center that occurred in Rao Island, South Morotai District West or Morselbar that overshadowed five villages, namely Posiposi, Leoleo Rao, Aru Burung, Lou Madoro, Saminya Mao, and Waya Bula.

"For Posiposi Village there are 2 units of seriously damaged houses, 2 minor damages, and 3 moderately damaged. While Leoleo Rao village as many as 56 units of houses were severely damaged, and 6 churches were slightly damaged. Also Aru Burung Village there are 50 units of houses severely damaged, 4 lightly damaged, and 2 churches slightly damaged, and 1 Pustu seriously damaged, "he said based on a release written on Monday (20/11/2017).

Dalik added that Lou Madoro Village also found 47 units of houses severely damaged, 90 houses slightly damaged, 3 churches, 1 elementary school and 1 pustu lightly damaged.

"For Saminya Village Mau also found 1 unit of heavily damaged houses, 3 moderately damaged, and 1 minor damage. In Waya Bula Village there are 4 units of seriously damaged houses, 6 medium damaged houses and 10 slightly damaged, "he continued.

"With a total damage of 160 housing units and one Pustu building is severely damaged, 11 units of houses are moderately damaged, 108 houses are lightly damaged, 12 churches and 1 primary school are lightly damaged."
