May 6, 2018 Earthquake: La Union, San Miguel, El Salvador

In its Special Report No. 12, the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MARN in Spanish acronym) called "Continuing seismic swarm in the municipalities of Chirilagua and Intipuca", issued today at 06:00 a.m. of 2018, indicates that the National Seismic Network of El Salvador has registered between 6:33 p.m. Saturday, May 5 and 06:00 a.m. and Wednesday May 9, 2018, a total of 733 earthquakes. The epicentral area is located between the municipalities of Chirilagua, department of San Miguel, and Intipuca in La Union. Of the total recorded earthquakes, 107 have been reported as felt by the population; the magnitudes range between 2.4 and 5.6. The largest magnitude earthquake was recorded at 1:02 p.m. of Sunday, May 6, with a magnitude of 5.6 and an intensity of VII in the municipalities of Chirilagua and Intipuca. The preliminary report of damages to this date indicates that we have a total of 289 damaged homes, 11 homes destroyed and damages in 9 schools. Human affectations: currently according to the Sectorial Technical Committee of Hostels, 26 shelters are active and the shelters are a total of 2,499 people, corresponding to 653 families.
