Northeast of Huaide, Jilin Province, 43 deg 50 min N, 125 deg 07 min E,
Meizoseismic region: 14 residential areas (about 162) including Jinchengpu, Yaollngtun, Wujiazhi,
Wangjiawopu, Xiaomenzhu and Chenjiatun. In Wujiazhi, all houses cracked for 2-10 cm wide, fissures occurred generally below the windows in the front walls, some in gables. An office of a production team was destroyed. Its front wall tilted outward and twisted, with a crack 15 cm wide. Of the 5 rooms in a house, 2 were destroyed seriously and could no longer be lived in. In other houses, thatches either fell in or slid down, perlins or rafters were broken, and back walls and partitions collapsed. In Xiaomenzhu, houses cracked open generally, thatches of some cottages fell or slid down. In a 5-room cottage, the thatches of 2 rooms completely fell in, the beams and frames tilted, and back walls collapsed. A 3-room cottage was tilted westward, with beams and frames twisted and gables cracked and deformed, and could no longer be inhabited. In Wangjiawopu, houses cracked generally; the
thatches of 4 cottages slid Or fell in. In a flour mill, the main beam of a workshop was broken. 9 brick houses were destroyed seriously, gables cracked widely, bricks fell off the wall corners, a part of eaves collapsed and chimneys fell.
Huaide: Shocks were felt by all. Dust fell in all houses. A few houses cracked. In Fanjiatun, a township of 7514 houses, 296 suffered breaking of perlins, and collapsing or cracking of walls, gables and eaves; 740 houses had cracks. In a sugar refinery, brick walls of the main building cracked, bricks of the ventilating window fell down, 2 cast iron pipes upstairs in the factory building were broken, the main shaft of a large elevator bent. Chimneys in the residential quarters cracked or twisted.
Ohangchun: In the city, rocking and dizziness were felt, dust fell in houses, tiny fissures occurred in the ceiling. Some walls of factory buildings of an automobile factory cracked. A parapet on the platform of the second floor cracked laterally, and shifted outward for 0.5-1 cm. Fissures occurred in walls in the factory and its living quarters at 136 places.
