September 12, 1945 Earthquake: Congo, Central African Republic, Cameroon

This was a strong shock affecting parts of the Cameroon, the Congo and the Central African Republic. The earthquake was widely felt, with the highest intensity near Uesso and to the north along the river Sangha where it caused some damage, including the collapse of river banks. The river-boat Balin ran aground. Some damage to public buildings was reported from Yokaduma, Baturi, Mekambo, Mohadi and Carnot where the spire of the mission's church was fissured. Away from the immediate vicinity of the Sangha, however, damage must have been very slight. The shock caused general panic over a large area and it was perceptible to distances of up to 510 km from the instrumental epicentre (reference #1214)
