December 25, 1932, 10:04:27 local time, Changma, Yumen, Gansu Province, 39.7 N, 96.7 E, magnitude 7.6, intensity X.

Meizoseismal region: Zhujia Gobi in the southern part

of the Changma Basin, Yumen County, the northern slope of Xiangmao Hill and Erdaochuan, Hongyazi and Xishuixiagou. According to incomplete statistics, 1,167 houses (86.5% of the total) collapsed in the Changma region. The ground

ruptured or deformed intermittently for 116 km in length, and extending from Maizigou Hill, West Lake, Changma in the west, to the mouth of the Xishui Gorge on the eastern side of the Baiyang River in the east. There occurred swelling of

earthen banks, forming steep ridges, sinking, fissuring,

landsliding, and falling of a lot of rocks. Ground fissures wider than 1 m were seen in most places. On the mountains, fissures cut crisscross through the summits. Water gushed out from fissures in flat ground. Springs and wells dried

up. The Shule River also dried up for several days.

All of the 800 families were devastated, 270 people

were killed and more than 300 injured in the Changmapu Township. The stricken region, about 500 km in length and

about 155 km in width, included the whole Changrna Basin and the west part of the Hexi Corridor.

Jiuquan: Battlements and gate towers fell down under shaking, shabby houses collapsed, and wooden cabins fissured. Ground fissures, 20-30 cm in width, occurred in the wet land. Some large trees were torn up. Landslides occurred widespread around Binggou and Langwei hills. There were many fixsures, generally 1-1.5 m in width, the widest up to 3 m.

Yumen: Battlements collapsed by shaking, rooftiles of gate towers fell, and over 10 houses were destroyed.

Dunhuang: About 100 old civilian houses collapsed.

Anxi: 25 civilian houses and city walls at 5 locations

were destroyed with loss of some dozen head of livestock.

Gaotai: City walls fell. Offices of the county government

collapsed, and many civilian houses were damaged. 3 persons were killed, over 20 injured, and more than 100 head of livestock were killed.

Jinta: The city wall collapsed about 14 m in length,

most civilian houses were also destroyed. 2 persons were killed.

Dingxin: Most city walls and houses collapsed under shaking. Several head of livestock were killed.

Qingshuipu: Battlements collapsed under shaking, part of the city walls collapsed, and some enclosing walls of a manor were destroyed.

Linze: Houses by the city gate suffered negligible
