1910, February on the night of the 24th to the 25th. A strong earthquake occurred in Matupi Harbor (Rabaul). It began with an abrupt shock lasting 4 seconds. A second shock, lasting 6 seconds, occurred a minute later. Another seven shocks were registered between 00:52 and 00:58 [local time]. The shocks were exceptionally strong on the coast: lamps, pictures, dishes, etc., fell to the floor in homes. Immediately after the first shock, a comparatively strong swell appeared from the southeast. (reference #414)
