1883, March 8. Colombia and Panama, Derien (Antioquia), Santa Rosa, Yarumal, intensity I which corresponds to an earthquake of intensity sufficient to crack walls, break chimneys, to shatter old buildings or to produce cracks in the ground. (reference #1055)

1883, March 8. Tremors felt in most of Colombia, mainly in Cartagena and Turlio at the mouth of the Atrato, the main shock propagated to the high plateaus of the Andes. There were oscillations of more than one minute in the Magdalena River. There was damage in the state of Antioquia, where the tower of the Cathedral was somewhat damaged in the capital. it must produce a series of replicas and held this year affected the city of Panama, Cartagena, Yarumal, Medellin , etc. So it is then commented in the Papel Periodico:

"Strong were in respect of whom felt the 8 tremors current (March), at 7 pm, and 23 at about dawn. The earthquake of the 8th did not produce no disgrace in this city but Antioch has taken the proportions of a real earthquake and caused serious damage, especially in the towns of Antioquia, Yarumal and Santa Rosa. The 23 seems to have damaged somewhat the north tower of the cathedral (Papel Periodico, N 37, Year II, 1883 , p. 212). (reference #1118)
