1825, Harhaz, 36.1 N, 52.6 E. A destructive earthquake in the Harhaz Valley ruined many villages, causing the deaths of a large number of people. Damage extended as far as Jaj-rud, Damavand, Amul and Sari. In the epicentral region almost all bridges and galleries on the Harhaz road were destroyed, particularly those between Kuhrud and Bul Qalam, rendering the road totally impassable for two years. There is some very tenuous evidence that in this locality the shock was associated with ground deformations possibly of tectonic origin. (reference #1117)
