August 9, 1589, in and around Tonghai and Qujiang, Yunnan Province, 24 N, 102.8 E, magnitude 6, intensity VIII.
Tonghai and Qujiang: Trees on mountains were broken.
River waters were dammed up. All city walls, offices and civilian houses collapsed, many people were killed in Tonghai, and even more in Qujiang.
Shiping: Walls and houses collapsed. The Wuzhen
stele of Jingyi Pavilion was broken (undated).
The earthquake also occurred at Jianshui, Luliarg,
Mile, Chengjiang, Lunan and Yuanjlang.
