June 17, 1515 Earthquake: Heqing, Yunnan Province, China

June 17, 1515, 26.6 N, 100.2 E, magnitude 7, intensity IX, Heqing, Yunnan Province.

Heqlng: All offices and civilian houses were devastated.

The drum-tower, Confucian Temple, schools,

Zunjing Pavilion and Xuanhua Temple collapsed.

Lijiang Prefecture: Earth quaked violently. Half

of civilian houses collapsed (Lijiang Prefecture had

its seat at Lijiang with jurisdiction over the present-

day Lanping, Weixi and Zhongdlan counties.).

Jianchuan: Two newly built corridors in a temple

and the Minglun Hall tilted under shaking. A

school collapsed.

Fengyi: Civilian houses were destroyed, causing

casualties. (It was also said that more than 10

civilian houses collapsed, and more than 100

women were killed.)

Xiangyun: Houses and city walls were damaged.

Wnding Prefecture: Half of the civilian houses toppled

down (the seat of Wuding Prefecture was located

at the present-day Wuding County, with jurisdiction

over Luquan and Yuanmou counties).

Dali: Earthquakes occurred in 1510, temples and

school buildings collapsed.

Yao'an and Dayao: Almost all of the offices and

civilian houses were demolished.

Lufeng: Offices and civilian houses almost completely

collapsed. (Damage suffered in Yao'an, Dayao

and Lufeng was probably what happened around

the epicenter)

Shocks were felt in Dengchuan, Eryuan and Yanfeng.

Shocks lasted for more than one month, often 20-30

times a day.

Note: In 1515 violent shocks occurred in Jingdong,

causing the collapse of half of the civilian houses.
