* WHAT...This level of heat affects most individuals sensitive to
heat, especially those without effective cooling and/or adequate
hydration.
* WHERE...Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.
* WHEN...Until 4 PM AST this afternoon.
* IMPACTS...High temperatures or elevated heat indices can worsen
symptoms in people with chronic conditions. They can also increase
the risk of heat-related illness among individuals sensitive to
heat with inadequate cooling or hydration. These risks are highest
across coastal areas, lowlands, interior valleys, and urban zones.
What to do
Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of
the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose
fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning
or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and
heat stroke.
The hazard is happening or about to. Act now: a tornado warning means take shelter, a flash flood warning means move to higher ground.
Watch
Conditions favor the hazard. Nothing is happening yet; have a plan and be ready to act if a warning follows.
Advisory
A hazard that is less serious than a warning but can still cause trouble, such as dense fog, heat or light ice.
Statement
Information about weather that does not yet meet a warning: a strong storm, a hydrologic update, or a special weather statement.
