.KEY MESSAGES...

* A pattern shift this week brings cooler temperatures, gusty winds,
  and mid-week precipitation chances.

.DISCUSSION...through the weekend.

Today marks the end of our historic March heatwave. Temperatures
will still be well above normal, but we should stay below record
values across the area. As the week progresses, temperatures are
forecast to drop fairly steadily (may see a slight uptick on
Thursday). The coolest day looks to be Friday, with temperatures
expected to be near, or even slightly below, normal. The pattern
change won't just bring cooler temperatures, but also gusty winds
and precipitation chances. Strongest gusts expected Tuesday through
Thursday as multiple troughs move through, but gusty conditions
linger Friday in the lower Colorado River Valley. Best chances for
impactful winds (40+ mph) are along the I-15 and I-40 corridors
where odds are 50-80%. Will have to watch for downsloping off the
Sierra and Spring Mountains, but this potential is more uncertain.
Precipitation chances arrive Tuesday and Wednesday, with best
chances (40-80%) in the Sierra, southern Great Basin, and the
northeastern Mojave Desert. Across the central and western Mojave
Desert, chances are 10-40%. Amounts in the lower elevations will be
light, but the higher terrain and southern Great Basin may see some
meaningful precipitation (0.25-0.50"). With snow levels generally
8500+ feet, potential for winter impacts is quite limited. As we
roll into the weekend, dry and warming conditions return.

.AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 18Z Forecast Package...Breezy
southwesterly winds will continue through the afternoon and into
the evening hours with gusts to around 20 to 25 knots. Winds will
become more westerly later this evening with gusts to around 25
knots continuing into the overnight hours. There is a chance that
winds may become lighter and more southwesterly should these
westerly winds not make it to the terminal area. Winds will fall
back to the southwest early Tuesday morning before ramping up late
Tuesday morning. VFR conditions continue, though increasing
clouds will result in SCT-BKN ceilings dropping from 20kft to
15kft by late afternoon/early evening.

For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast
California...For the 18Z Forecast Package...Breezy southerly- to-
southwesterly winds will continue through the afternoon and into
the evening across the Mojave Desert and southern Great Basin.
Sustained speeds around 15KT with gusts to 20-30 knots will be
common. For most, winds diminish somewhat after sunset, though
will remain gusty, especially across the Las Vegas Valley where
there is moderate confidence for gusts to 20-30KT to return
overnight. KBIH is an exception, with northwesterly winds expected
to shift to the west and become gusty for a period this
afternoon, before returning to the north after sunset. VFR
conditions prevail with increasing clouds resulting in SCT-BKN
ceilings 15-20kft by this afternoon.
