The National Weather Service in Las Vegas has issued a Fire
Weather Watch, which is in effect from Friday morning through
Saturday evening. A Red Flag Warning remains in effect from this
evening through Wednesday morning.  

* AFFECTED AREA...In California...Fire weather zone 228.

* THUNDERSTORMS...Scattered thunderstorms this evening and
  overnight will be capable of producing lightning with very 
  little rainfall. Gusty outflow winds will also be possible in 
  and near any storms that do develop. 

* WIND...Southwest winds 20 to 25 mph with gusts to 30 mph are
  possible Friday and Saturday. 

* HUMIDITY...5 to 15 percent Friday and Saturday.

* IMPACTS...Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. 
  Outdoor burning is not recommended.

.KEY MESSAGES...

* Warm temperatures with afternoon highs well above normal will
  continue through Thursday.

* Isolated to scattered showers and storms Tuesday evening through
  Wednesday for areas along and southeast of the I-15 corridor.

* Dry and windy conditions return Friday into the weekend,
  returning elevated fire danger to the region and bringing cooler
  temperatures.

.DISCUSSION...through Monday.

Temperatures continue to run above normal through Thursday as a
ridge remains to our southeast, keeping positive 500mb height
anomalies in place. The heat peaks today with highs 100-115F across
the Mojave Desert and 90-100F in the southern Great Basin. An influx
of mid-level moisture and clouds will suppress temperatures a few
degrees on Wednesday. Temperatures hold steady on Thursday before
gradually decreasing through the weekend as the next system moves in.

The aforementioned influx of moisture actually begins Tuesday
afternoon and evening as southerly flow aloft strengthens between
the ridge to our southeast and a shortwave to our southwest. The
moisture advection combined with lift from the shortwave will spark
isolated to scattered convection across the western Mojave Desert
Tuesday afternoon. This activity is expected to lift northeast
Tuesday night, with additional development possible in its wake
Wednesday morning. Dry low levels will hinder precipitation
accumulation, with the best chances (20-50%) of measurable
precipitation along and southeast of I-15. The main concern with
this activity will be gusty outflow winds and dry lightning.
Moisture decreases and gets pushed east on Thursday, resulting in
limited PoPs (~10%) confined to eastern Mohave County.

Dry weather returns on Friday and through the weekend as a potent
trough (for this time of year) pushes into the western US. While
temperatures and moisture decrease, southwest winds will be on the
increase. Widespread gusts of 25-45 mph are likely (80%),
particularly on Friday and Saturday. Expecting the typical wind
impacts of hazardous crosswinds and boating conditions, but also
enhanced fire danger. Fuels are primed and afternoon RH values are
forecast to be 5-15%. Existing fires and any new starts from mid-
week convection will be hard to contain.

.AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 12Z Forecast Package...Light
and somewhat  variable winds early this morning will settle out
of the south by late morning, with intermittent gusts to around
15KT expected through early to mid afternoon. Winds then veer to
the southwest and increase, with gusts to 20-25KT expected
thereafter through early Wednesday morning. This evening onward,
isolated to scattered high-based showers and thunderstorms are
expected to move northeastward across southern Nevada. There is
high confidence in these storms occurring, but low to medium
confidence in precise location and subsequent impacts at the
terminal. Erratic, gusty winds and lightning strikes can be
expected with storms that develop, along with localized blowing
dust that could reduce visibility. These passing showers/storms
will persist through the end of the period on an intermittent
basis. Outside of storms, VFR conditions continue with increasing
clouds this afternoon resulting in SCT-BKN ceilings at 10kft or
above. Temperatures today will exceed 100F between 19Z-04Z,
reaching a high of 109F around 00Z.

For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast
California...For the 12Z Forecast Package...Winds this morning
will remain around 5-10KT and follow typical patterns with some
variability. By late this morning into early this afternoon, winds
will settle out of the south to southwest, increasing with gusts
to 20-25KT common across the area. These winds will persist into
tonight, with a couple of exceptions. First, in the northern Owens
Valley including KBIH, winds shift to the southeast late morning,
then to the southwest by late afternoon before becoming light
this evening. Additionally, KDAG will see typical daily
directional wind shifts through mid-afternoon, with winds settling
out of the west-southwest and remaining elevated and at least
intermittently gusty mid-afternoon onward. Isolated to scattered
showers and thunderstorms will develop late this afternoon, first
across southeastern California, then expand northeastward across
southern Nevada into northwestern Arizona overnight. Erratic gusty
winds and lightning are the primary concerns with this
convection, along with localized visibility reductions due to
blowing dust. VFR conditions otherwise prevail with increasing
clouds at or above 10kft this afternoon onward.
