.KEY MESSAGES...

*  Above-normal temperatures and afternoon breezes continue today
   and tomorrow.

*  Impactful winds and cooler temperatures are likely Saturday
   through Monday as a trough moves in.

.DISCUSSION...through Wednesday.

Temperatures remain 5-10 degrees above normal to end the work week
as positive 500mb height anomalies persist in this quasi-zonal flow.
Most of the Mojave Desert will be in the 90s to low 100s, while the
southern Great Basin tops out in the 80s. Light winds anticipated
this afternoon with breezes increasing tomorrow, particularly across
western San Bernardino County where the gap flow will yield gusts of
25-35 mph.

Our next system arrives Saturday, with a secondary shortwave
reinforcing the trough on Sunday before slide east on Monday.
Temperatures during this time are forecast to drop 15-20 degrees,
resulting in highs below climatology on Monday. As is typical, a
temperature swing of this magnitude coincides with gusty winds. In
our northwestern zones, winds will be northwesterly. Along and south
of I-15, winds will generally be southwesterly until they turn
northwesterly Sunday evening/night. Within the southwesterly wind
regime, best chances (80-90%) for wind impacts are across western
San Bernardino County on Saturday, with 60-80% chances spreading
across the Mojave Desert on Sunday. Because of the high confidence
in impactful winds in the Barstow area, decided to issue a Wind
Advisory from 11AM Saturday through 11PM Sunday. In the
northwesterly wind regime, best chances (70-80%) for impacts will be
in the southern Great Basin on Sunday afternoon before spreading
into southeastern California, southern Nevada, and the Colorado
River Valley on Sunday night and Monday. In general, widespread
gusts of 40-50 mph appear likely (70%), with gusts 50-60+ mph
possible (40%) in some spots. Given the trajectory of this system,
not expecting much in the way of precipitation chances. Currently,
PoPs are limited to our far northeastern CWA at 10-30% on Sunday. As
the trough weakens and pushes east next week, temperatures quickly
rebound and winds lighten up.

.AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 06Z Forecast Package...Light
winds under 8KT following typical wind directions are expected
overnight through Friday morning. Friday afternoon, east winds
early will become south and breezy around 21Z when gusts to around
20KT develop. Winds will stop gusting around 03Z but will remain
elevated through the night- there is a 50% chance for wind speeds
over 10KT through Friday night. VFR conditions with mostly clear
skies are expected through the period. Temperatures may briefly
touch 100 degrees Friday 22Z-00Z. Looking ahead- breezy southwest
winds over 25KT are expected on Saturday, then there is the
potential for strong winds Sunday afternoon and night. Will
continue to monitor the chances for strong north winds Sunday,
currently there is a 30% chance for gusts over 40KT.

For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast
California...For the 06Z Forecast Package...West winds will
continue at KDAG, gusting 20-30KT for a few more hours before
gusts ends but elevated 10-15KT winds continue through Friday
morning. Elsewhere, light winds are expected tonight. On Friday,
south to southwest winds will increase in the afternoon with gusts
15-25KT expected. The exception is KBIH where north winds gusting
to 20KT will push through in the afternoon. Winds across the
region will diminish around sunset except at KDAG where gusts to
30KT will develop late afternoon and continue through Friday
night. VFR conditions will continue through the period.
