- Tropical Storm Bertha will continue to bring squally weather
  from the coastal to inland counties via outer rainbands over the
  next couple of days. Gusty winds, pockets of heavy rain, and
  potential for brief tornadoes are the main concerns.

- Tropical Storm Watches in effect from the coastal Walton-
  Okaloosa line through coastal Franklin County and nearshore
  waters along/west of the Ochlockonee River where tropical storm
  conditions are possible within stronger rainbands.

- A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for the outer waters
  along/west of the Ochlockonee River where tropical storm
  conditions are expected. Dangerous marine and beach conditions
  persist via high surf and rip current risks.

Issued at 812 PM EDT Mon Jul 20 2026

Tropical Depression Two has strengthened to Tropical Storm Bertha
as of 7pm CDT. It is located 110 miles south of Panama City, FL
and is moving west-northwest at 3 mph. Overall, our forecast
impacts haven't changed with periods of squally weather rotating
through the area, especially in our Florida counties, through the
night.

.SHORT TERM...
(This Evening through Tuesday)
Issued at 304 PM EDT Mon Jul 20 2026

All eyes on Tropical Depression Two (TD2) and its evolution over
the NE Gulf the next 24-48 hrs. As of 2PM EDT, the center of TD2
was located near Buoy 42039 while moving erratically NW at a
snail's pace with max sustained winds of 35 mph. The NHC official
forecast calls for TD2 to strengthen to a tropical storm (Bertha)
later today or tonight and a continued slow NW track through
tonight, followed by a turn to the WNW or west. The overall path
takes the tropical cyclone near or along the northern Gulf coast
during the next several days.

Outer rainbands will the be primary direct threats in the form or
gusty winds (occasionally to tropical storm force), pockets of
heavy rain capable of isolated flash flooding, and quick/brief
spinups. Coastal communities are most at risk of these threats
where Tropical Storm Watches remain in effect from Okaloosa-Walton
County line through Franklin County. Any Warning upgrades in the
near future are yet to be determined. Overall, expect squally
weather of on/off showers & thunderstorms. Indirect threats are
dangerous beach conditions in the form of high surf and frequent
rip currents, and potential for minor coastal saltwater flooding.
Convection looks to retreat south of I-10 tonight before spreading
inland tomorrow afternoon as daytime instability increases.

Low temperatures are forecast to be in the mid 70s while highs
climb to the upper 80s to around 90 degrees.

.LONG TERM...
(Tuesday night through next Sunday) Issued at 304 PM EDT Mon Jul
20 2026

Today's NHC intermediate afternoon advisory places the center of
TD2 (likely Tropical Storm Bertha) somewhere near or south of the
FL/AL coast while on a more westward track Tuesday evening. This
position keeps us on the eastern (i.e., hazardous) side of the
tropical cyclone where outer rainbands are likely to continue
posing a threat for gusty winds (tropical storm force at times),
heavy rain, and potential for brief isolated tornadoes. The
highest rain chances therefore focus across the FL Panhandle, SE
AL, and around Apalachicola Nat'l Forest.

The overall tropical threat should be on a diminishing trend as
the system continues its trek towards the Northern Gulf coast and
away from us with an increase in forward speed. Meanwhile, upper
troughing to our north drops a front into the region mid-week, so
unsettled, wet/stormy weather is on the table through the weekend,
but at least of the non-tropical variety.

High temperatures are forecast to be in the low 90s (low 100s
heat indices) with lows in the mid 70s.

(18Z TAFS) Issued at 304 PM EDT Mon Jul 20 2026

The terminals will be under the influence of the outer bands of
Tropical Depression 2 through the period. Continued -SHRA with
VCTS at TLH/ECP/VLD may lead to brief MVFR/IFR in heavier rain
until around sunset. Tonight, MVFR cigs are expected to develop
with highest confidence at TLH/ECP/VLD; have shortened the time
interval of MVFR at DHN/ABY based on the latest guidance. Cigs
gradually lift to VFR Tuesday morning, although confidence in
timing is lower. By late Tue AM, -SHRA w/VCTS at TLH/ECP/VLD.
Winds E/SE increase to around 10 kts with gusts to 20 kts.

As of 2PM EDT, the center of Tropical Depression Two was located
near Buoy 42039 while moving slowly northwest. The system is
expected to become a tropical storm later today or tonight and
track near or along the northern Gulf Coast the next several days.
A Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for waters 20 to 60
nautical miles from Ochlockonee River to the Okaloosa-Walton
County line. A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for Saint Andrews
Bay and the nearshore legs along and west of Bald Point. Outer
rainbands will continue to move across the waters the next couple
days or so and be capable of strong, gusty winds, waterspouts, and
heavy rain. Rough marine conditions look to improve mid to late
week.

.FIRE WEATHER...
Issued at 304 PM EDT Mon Jul 20 2026

There are minimal fire concerns over the next 2-3 days thanks to
Tropical Depression Two, located near Buoy 42039 as of 2PM EDT.
Expect squally weather consisting of on/off showers &
thunderstorms with gusty winds and pockets of heavy rain. Highest
rain chances are along/south of the FL state line, especially near
the coast and offshore tomorrow. The axis of heaviest
precipitation shifts to the FL Panhandle, SE AL, and the
Apalachicola Nat'l Forest on Wednesday, then Wiregrass Region on
Thursday.

.HYDROLOGY...
Issued at 304 PM EDT Mon Jul 20 2026

Rainbands from Tropical Depression Two continue to move inland
across much of the region. Widespread rainfall amounts of 0.5-1.5
inches are expected through the next couple of days, with heavier
amounts possible near the immediate coast. The flash flood risk is
greatest south of I-10 where several bands may train over the
same location. There are no concerns for river flooding given
these rainfall amounts.

Persistent onshore flow in Apalachee Bay will lead to minor
coastal flooding on the next high tide Tuesday morning. Water
levels of 2 to 2.5 ft MHHW are expected along the immediate coast.
This typically results in flooding of low-lying beach access
roads and other coastal adjacent properties.

In the Florida Panhandle west of Indian Pass, water levels are
running above normal by about 1.5 ft even with offshore flow. As
wind directions shift to be more onshore later tonight and into
Tuesday, a period of coastal flooding around the high tides late
tonight and late Tuesday night is expected. Water levels of 1.5 to
2 ft MHHW are expected along the immediate coast. This typically
results in flooding through beach access areas into parking lots
and some low-lying roads along the immediate coast.

As Tropical Depression Two moves further away from the area on
Wednesday, water levels along the coast should drop enough where
advisories are no longer necessary.
