* WHAT...Dangerous rip currents expected.

* IMPACTS...Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away 
  from shore into deeper water.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Breezy northeast winds following a cold
  front will produce a longshore current along St George Island
  and 2-ft surf. More breeziness anticipated tonight into midday
  tomorrow.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and
float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a
direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the
shore and call or wave for help.

- Small craft advisory in effect for tonight for Gulf waters and
  small craft exercise caution in effect for St. Andrews Bay as
  northeast winds increase tonight. These winds will also bringing
  increasing seas.

- Northeast winds behind a cool front will bring another taste of
  Fall to the area through the early weekend.

- Elevated fire concerns are possible due to low humidity on
  Saturday afternoon.

.SHORT TERM...
(Today and Tonight)

Today will be the start of cooler conditions as stronger
northeasterly flow behind a cool (not cold) front takes over. This
northeasterly flow is in response to a deepening area of low
pressure off the east coast of the US as a large upper level
trough drops into the Mid-Atlantic states and strengthens. While
this front won't bring cold temperatures, the steady northeasterly
flow and low-stratus will definitely keep temperatures lower
across the area, especially in our north and northeast counties
across south-central Georgia. We went a few degrees below our
typical NBM guidance as this is commonly a pattern where
temperatures struggle to warm, especially when any cloud-
cover/low-level moisture is involved like we'll see this
afternoon. Expect highs to range from the mid to upper 70s across
Tifton/Albany to the mid/upper 80s across our coastal locations in
Florida where more sun and the cool air wedge will struggle to
reach.

For tonight, cooler temperatures are forecast with overnight low
temperatures in the upper 50s across our northeast zones near
Tifton and the mid to upper 60s across our Florida counties.

.LONG TERM...
(Friday through Wednesday)

Friday and Saturday will see a continuation of the cooler
temperatures, especially in the overnight hours, as surface high
pressure behind today's cold front remains entrenched. However,
given that the source region for this cool front is not very cold,
and upper level ridging slowly redevelops later this weekend,
we'll be back into the mid to upper 80s by late this weekend or
early next week.

No significant rain chances are expected until the later in the
upcoming week as moisture recovery will take a few days to
progress in the wake of the weekend high pressure.

Low stratus deck will continue to overspread much of SW GA, parts of
SE AL, and the FL Big Bend thru the first part of this TAF cycle.
Long-duration restrictions in MVFR cigs are expected at all
terminals, sans ECP with conds not improving until the early aftn.
Attention then shifts to breezy post-frontal northeast winds around
10 kts, frequent gusts up to 20 kts.

Moderate northeasterly breezes are expected to continue today and
strengthen into tonight as a cool front moves through. Seas will
build to about 3 to 5 feet overnight. Cautionary conditions are
expected this afternoon with advisory level conditions developing
overnight. For the bays, winds will remain below advisory level,
but expect choppy conditions to develop this evening and small
craft should exercise caution overnight. Winds will decrease
Friday into the weekend as high pressure moves into the Southeast
US.

.FIRE WEATHER...

Northeasterly transport winds of 10-15 mph are expected through
Friday with mixing heights ranging from the 3,500 over the GA
zones to 4,500 over the FL zones. This will lead to mostly good
dispersions, though locally high dispersions are possible in the
Apalachicola NF. Winds stay elevated on Friday with increasing
mixing heights, so dispersions will be high area-wide Friday
afternoon. While humidities decrease each afternoon into Saturday,
Min RH values should remain above critical levels both Thursday
and Friday.

On Saturday, winds will lighten to around 10 mph, but RH values will
drop down to near critical levels with mid-20s to low 30s as
conditions warm. Thus, perhaps elevated fire danger is possible
Saturday afternoon, especially if winds end up higher than
forecast.
