...FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 745 PM MDT THIS 
EVENING FOR SOUTH CENTRAL GARFIELD COUNTY...

At 608 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy 
rain across the warned area. Between 0.75 and 1.3 inches of rain 
have fallen. Flooding impacts will continue, but no additional 
rainfall is expected. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin 
shortly.

HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms producing
         flash flooding.

         urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood 
deaths occur in vehicles.

Remain alert for flooding even in locations not receiving rain. Dry 
washes, streams, and rivers can become raging killer currents in a 
matter of minutes, even from distant rainfall.

.KEY MESSAGES, Issued 1056 PM MDT Sat Jul 25 2026...

- Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected over southern
  Utah and a portion of central Utah on Sunday, continuing the
  risk of heavy rainfall and flash flooding. Moisture surges
  northward by Tuesday, then decreases substantially Thursday
  forward.

- Hot temperatures as high as the lower 100s can be expected for
  the valleys of northwest Utah as well as the Uinta Basin through
  Monday, with highs in the upper 100s for portions of southern
  Utah, including Zion National Park. Overnight lows will remain
  in the 70s to around 80, limiting the potential for overnight
  relief from the heat.

.DISCUSSION...While an area of high pressure remains centered over
the Four Corners region today, the overall pattern will begin to
shift as an offshore trough in the PacNW region begins to chip
away at the northern extent of the high. What this means for us
is the introduction of an overall drier airmass as we head into
the middle of the upcoming week. Hot temperatures are expected to
remain in place through the next 7 days, with slight moderation
through the first half of the week as a push of moisture surges
ahead of the drier airmass. As the drier airmass is introduced, a
resurgence of hotter temperatures is expected areawide through the
remainder of the week.

Today, a subtle shortwave embedded within the southwestern portion
of the high will lift into the southern half of Utah, helping to
push showers and thunderstorms off terrain features later this
afternoon. Ahead of this feature, regional mesoanalysis already
notes a finger of enhanced PWAT values (1.2+ inches) pushing into
far southwest Utah, with a broad 1 inch of PWAT extending to near
Beaver County and areas east. With the presence of relatively
high PWAT values across southern Utah, anticipate heavy rainfall
with any storms that develop. As such, the risk of flash flooding
over slot canyons, dry washes, slick rock areas, and recent burn
scars will all remain a possibility through today.

This moisture will remain in place across southern Utah through
at least Wednesday, raising at least an isolated concern for heavy
rainfall over the aforementioned areas each day. This stream of
moisture will be pushed farther northward Tuesday and Wednesday,
bringing concerns of the same hazards across northern Utah.
Thereafter, the trough offshore will remain in place and introduce
a much drier southwest flow across Utah and southwest Wyoming.
Overall chances for showers and thunderstorms are expected to
decrease substantially Thursday forward, with only isolated
showers and thunderstorms anticipated to form over a portion of
Utah's high terrain. The overall risk of heavy rainfall will
greatly decrease as this drier airmass spreads into the region.

Hot temperatures will also remain a concern through the week
ahead, with minor moderation of heat expected Monday through
Wednesday alongside a resurgence of heat Thursday through
Saturday. While daytime high temperatures will be upwards of 5-10
degrees above average, overnight low temperatures will be the main
concern as little cooling is expected to occur, raising the
overall risk for heat related illness. Along the Wasatch Front,
and many other areas throughout Utah, overnight low temperatures
are only expected to fall into the 70s (some areas near 80
degrees!) by the minutes just before sunrise. Due to the overall
lack of recovery alongside hot daytime temperatures, Heat
Advisories and Extreme Heat Warnings remain in effect across
various Utah valleys through at least Monday. Discussion on
potential heat headlines during the second half of the week are
already underway.

.AVIATION...
KSLC...VFR conditions to continue through the TAF period. Typical
diurnal wind shifts are expected through Monday, with southerly
winds this morning switching northwesterly after 19z, then switching
back to southeasterly after 04z. Showers move into the Salt Lake
valley after 04z, with a 15-20% chance to impact the terminal with
gusty and erratic winds through 12z.

REST OF UTAH AND SOUTHWEST WYOMING...Scattered showers and
thunderstorms are expected today across southern and eastern Utah,
with storms capable of producing brief heavy rainfall, lightning,
and gusty and erratic outflow winds to 40 kts. VFR conditions
prevail overall for most regional terminals, though heavier rainfall
could bring brief VIS reductions. Showers spread into northern Utah
late this evening, with potential to bring gusty and erratic outflow
winds through roughly 12z.

.FIRE WEATHER...With moisture remaining in place across the central and
southern portions of Utah, expect daily shower and thunderstorm
activity each day through at least Wednesday. For northern Utah,
moisture content is already beginning to decrease, bringing low
chances for showers and thunderstorms for areas roughly north of
the I-80 corridor. Past Wednesday, the environment will dry
substantially which will allow for a downtrend in relative
humidity from Thursday through Saturday. For much of Utah,
afternoon relative humidity will fall back into the single-digits
to low-teens. In addition to to dry afternoon conditions, very
little, if any, humidity recovery is anticipated in northwestern
and west-central Utah starting Thursday night. A resurgence of
heat is also expected through the latter half of the week.
