Have adjusted PoPs to have better chances from Southeast WV into
the NC foothills, east to the Piedmonts this evening. Added more
patchy fog areawide late tonight.

KEY MESSAGE 1: Showers/few storms this evening should diminish overnight
with fog developing. Drying conditions returning for the early
half of the coming week.

Shortwave per mesoanalysis and WV loop is over the Cumberland
Plateau of TN and should shift east over our area overnight but
weakening. Should see best concentration of showers/few storms
this evening, but again not everyone will have rain.

Once the wave moves east, fog may form with some clearing
especially east of the mountains.

Previous discussion...

Approaching upper shortwave energy should allow the boundary
that was near the VA/NC border this morning to lift northward as
a warm front along with increased deep layer moisture. Some
convective initiation has already occurred with some scattered
showers pushing northward in the CWA. Coverage should increase
later this afternoon and evening as the upper forcing kicks in
more. Morning stratus lingered on for a while so destabilization
could be limited - progged MLCAPE is around 1000 J/kg and the
morning sounding indicated some tall skinny CAPE profile. Shear
parameters are weak so all in all any thunderstorms should be
your generic garden variety but possible training could lead to
some localized flooding. A few strong storms could be possible
from downburst winds. Decent coverage could last through the
evening and there is some CAM consensus on this. Trough axis
should make it's way into the area by Sunday morning and allow
for a mostly dry second half of the weekend.

A weak cold front should push southward across the area for
Monday though this should be mainly a dry passage and with a
ridge building in behind this feature at least the first half
of the work week looks to remain dry as well.

.AVIATION /00Z SUNDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
Mainly expecting VFR this evening although showers/few storms
could drop cigs/vsbys to MVFR or worse. Best chance will be
LYH/DAN/BLF/LWB, but even ROA/BCB should experience some at
times between 02-06z. Afterwards, showers should diminish
leavingbehind some scattered lower clouds and sct/bkn mid/high
deck. This setup with the wet low levels may lead to MVFR or
worse fog and stratus later tonight at most taf sites.
Confidence is high that all sites will at least be sub-VFR in
the 06-13z time frame, but could drop as low as LIFR.

Skies scatter out between 13-16z Sunday, but may become broken
at times though mostly VFR.

EXTENDED AVIATION OUTLOOK...

Mainly VFR expected through midweek, outside of any late night
fog at the usual places like LWB/BCB.

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for north central North Carolina,
northwest North Carolina, central Virginia, south central Virginia,
southwest Virginia, west central Virginia and southeast West
Virginia.

.DAY ONE...This afternoon and tonight.

Widely scattered thunderstorms will develop during this afternoon
and in the evening. A few of these storms may produce heavy downpours
that could result in localized flash flooding. One or two storms may
also produce damaging wind gusts that could blow down a few trees
and power lines.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Sunday through Friday.

There is a low probability for widespread hazardous weather.

...THUNDERSTORM WITH TORRENTIAL DOWNPOURS TO IMPACT THE
MARTINSVILLE AREA THROUGH 9PM...

A thunderstorm with one hour rainfall rates of 2 to 4 inches will
move slowly north across Martinsville and Axton through 9pm. This
torrential rainfall will lead to some localized street flooding and
flooding of poor drainage areas like ditches. Those traveling should
be alert and slow down to avoid hydroplaning.

...Heavy Rainfall At Times Late This Evening...

Expect a couple rounds of showers and a few thunderstorms through
11pm. Rainfall rates of 1 to 3 inches an hour will lead to ponding
of water on the roadways, and some poor drainage flooding
especially in urban areas. Those traveling should be alert to
ponded water and slow down to avoid hydroplaning.
