EVENING FOR CENTRAL BOONE AND NORTH CENTRAL LOGAN COUNTIES...

At 818 PM EDT, Trained weather spotters reported thunderstorms
producing heavy rain across the warned area. Six Mile Creek along Six
Mile Road in Boone County has overflowed its banks. Between 2 and 3.5
inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts up to 0.5
inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing.

HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

SOURCE...Trained spotters reported.

IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas,
         highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor
         drainage and low-lying areas.

Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
  Madison, Chapmanville, Van, Chief Logan State Park, Mount
  Gay-Shamrock, Danville, Mitchell Heights, Jeffrey, Turtle Creek,
  Sharples, Blair, Foster, and Prenter.

This includes Route 119 between mile markers 30 and 51.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.

At 905 PM EDT, trained weather spotters reported flash flooding
across the warned area. Between 2 and 3.5 inches of rain have fallen.
Flooding impacts will continue, but no additional rainfall is
expected. Multiple roads are flooded across portions of Boone and
Logan Counties. Six Mile Creek along Six Mile Road in Boone County
has overflowed its banks.

The forecast remains on track and is consistent with the
previous package.

.KEY MESSAGES...
1) The potential for severe today with the continuation of
potential general storms and isolated severe storms into the
new work week.

2) The heat is finally giving way to some reprieve as
temperatures fall graciously for the new work week.

&&

.DISCUSSION...
KEY MESSAGE 1...

Today will focus on thunderstorm activity across the entire
area which may become strong to severe and pose a flash flood
risk. Severe indices are elevated and in place to support severe
thunderstorms. With CAPE close to near 3500 J/kg, enough
instability and the lack of CIN there will support strong
thunderstorm development into the evening. There is more
moisture in the forecast soundings which will support wet
downburst/heavy downpours which can cause damaging wind, however
flooding will be the main threat with PWATS close to 1.9 inches
along with the greater moisture in the column than yesterday.
Freezing levels around 15K+ feet therefore hail will have a
hard time reaching the ground before melting, however small hail
could be a possibility under severe storm activity, especially
within a downburst. The area is mainly under a marginal risk for
severe thunderstorms into the evening issued by SPC.

With the lack of shear and steering flow aloft storms will have
a hard time to become severe although downburst potential will
be able to support flash flooding. If storms hover over the same
area and/or backbuild and train areas will be susceptible to
flooding issues, especially low lying and flood prone areas that
are hit repeatedly. Storms are moving slightly faster than
yesterday which will bode well for the area and to prevent
significant flooding issues. We are under a marginal risk for
excessive rainfall from WPC so this does support isolated flash
flood potential.

Hi-res models suggest activity continuing into the evening at
which point will start to diminish around 6Z. The most
aggressive models are the Hi-resW FV3 and ARW who had convection
starting off early around 16Z which is spot on as the
convection is ongoing across the Ohio River currently well ahead
of a cold front to the west, however the HRRR is quiet today
with some convection starting around 21Z and confined to mainly
the norther tiers our our CWA. This is not the case with a line
congealing from the top of our CWA along the Ohio River down to
the bottom of our CWA. Severe thunderstorms looks to become more
isolated in nature today. If convection brings in enough cloud
coverage some of that high instability will be lost and will
help limit thunderstorms or at least the potential for severe by
late afternoon across the CWA. More storm potential and the
possibility of isolated severe thunderstorms will continue into
the new work week.

KEY MESSAGE 2...

The heat wave is over and temperatures will fall back down to
around seasonable for us through the new work week. This will
deny the possibility of any heat headlines, especially with the
chances for convection on a daily basis. Also, cloud coverage
seems fairly abundant for the afternoons and evenings through
the work week, therefore that should suppress the potential for
above average temperatures and the possibility of any heat
headlines such as an heat advisory. As high pressure exits the
area it will be replaced by low pressure energy and a short wave
trough which models have sticking around across the area for
the duration of the new work week providing that potential for
cloudy skies and convection during daytime heating.

.AVIATION /00Z MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
Expect lingering showers and thunderstorms until around 04Z
Monday. Any heavier downpour can reduce visibility to MVFR or
IFR for a brief time. Between 06Z and 12Z, MVFR to IFR fog and
low stratus will develop, especially in the mountain valleys and
locations where it previously rained in the past 12 hours. This
has been reflected in the latest TAF package.

Additional thunderstorms will develop by 18Z Monday, lasting
through Monday afternoon. VCTS has been added to the latest
TAFs.
