KEY MESSAGE 1...
Surface low pressure will cross to our north on Friday tightening
pressure gradient as it does so. A strong low level jet with 850 mb
flow between 50-60 knots will establish across the Great Lakes and
down into the Ohio Valley. Both of these features will support
elevated wind gusts especially during the daytime hours as the
boundary layer mixes and taps into the strong low level flow. NBM
QMD gust probabilities for Wind Advisory criteria (46+ mph gusts)
range from about 60-80% for most of the region. The same threshold
for Eastern Tucker ranges from 75-100% for Advisory criteria,
greatest in the highest elevations of the eastern part of the
county, which will likely linger longer through Friday night. A Wind
Advisory remains in effect from 8 AM for all counties, ending at
midnight for all but eastern Tucker, which will end at 6 AM
Saturday. It's possible that the highest elevations of the eastern
Tucker reach High Wind Warning criteria (58+ mph gusts), but with a
west to northwest direction, the peak gusts should be on the
downslope side of the ridges.
Strong 850-700 mb warm advection accompanying the warm front on the
south side of the low will support some light snow showers north of
Pittsburgh with a rain/snow mix as far south as Pittsburgh. Ground
temperatures will be warm, and air temperatures will quickly rise
above freezing by the morning hours, so any snow that does fall will
struggle to accumulate save a dusting on elevated surfaces.
KEY MESSAGE 2...
A deep trough will dig across the central CONUS on Sunday
establishing strong deep layer southwest flow across the area.
Column moisture will increase with open flow from the Gulf and the
primary highest PWAT axis looks to be displaced off to our east, but
still, local values reaching near 1 inch will exceed the 90th
percentile of climatology on Monday. Timing of a passing cold
front is uncertain, but forcing will increase with the passage
and return showers and thunderstorms sometime Monday. These may
pose a heavy rain and low end severe chance (machine learning
suggests some chance to our west and to our east, likely owing
to timing difference of the cold front and potential overnight
Sunday night passage). It will be another potent front with a
sharp temperature and dew point drop behind it and likely
transition to some snow showers.

.AVIATION /00Z FRIDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
Isolated snow showers/flurries from PIT west will dissipate over
the next few hours with the loss of daytime heating. Remaining
wind gusts will subside as well as mixing eases. VFR conditions
then prevail through the night, with mainly high clouds.
Low pressure passing to our north brings rain/snow chances
primarily to the I-80 corridor Friday morning, though
potentially as far south as PIT/AGC/BVI, where PROB30 groups
were maintained. Prevailing rain/snow with minor visibility reductions
were favored at FKL/DUJ.
Past sunrise, wind gusts pick up out of the southwest, with
peaks between 20 and 30 knots beginning around 12Z, and then
around 40 knots by midday. VFR conditions continue through the
afternoon.
Outlook...
VFR continues Saturday under high pressure. Restriction
potential returns Sunday north of PIT with a warm front passage,
followed by more widespread restrictions in showers ahead of a
Monday cold front.
