...A TORNADO WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 530 PM CDT FOR EAST
CENTRAL POSEY COUNTY...

At 513 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado
was located near Blairsville, or 8 miles north of Mount Vernon,
moving southeast at 10 mph.

HAZARD...Tornado.

SOURCE...Radar indicated rotation.

IMPACT...Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without 
         shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage 
         to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur.  Tree damage is 
         likely.

Locations impacted include...
Blairsville.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

TAKE COVER NOW! Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest
floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a
mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter
and protect yourself from flying debris.

.KEY MESSAGES...

- There is a Slight Risk (level 2 of 5) of severe storms this afternoon
  and into the evening. All severe hazards are possible.

- Repeated rounds of heavy rainfall are possible through the
  weekend. Additional storm total amounts of 0.75-2" is possible
  with locally higher amounts possible as well. A Flood Watch is
  in effect through late tonight.

.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 1225 PM CDT Sat Jul 11 2026

A disturbance just to the north will work in tandem with a
boundary to produce scattered showers and storms today. Cloud
cover is slowing destabilization late this morning but some
breaks in cloud cover are occurring. Better instability is
located across the southern row of counties in KY and across
west Tennessee. The general consensus is for scattered
development this afternoon with activity pushing southeast into
the evening. The threat for severe weather will be supported by
30-35 knots of bulk shear and 1500-2500 J/Kg of CAPE.

The upper level disturbance is slow to move east into Sunday
but does move into portions of central Kentucky by then.
Northerly winds behind the low will bring drier air into the
region but chances for a few showers or storms remain in the
forecast for eastern areas. High pressure takes over next week
bringing drier and warmer conditions. High temperatures
gradually climb into the upper 80s by midweek and near 90 by the
end of the week. Lower end afternoon rain/storm chances are in
the forecast next week but coverage is expected to be much less
then what we have been seeing over the past several days.

Another round of SHRA/TSRA is possible at the terminals this
afternoon and into the evening. Restrictions in cig/visibility
are possible in/near TSRA activity. Behind this, MVFR cigs are
possible late tonight with low probability of IFR at OWB/EVV.
Improvements are expected Sunday morning. Winds from the west
this afternoon become light and variable overnight.

Illinois, southwest Indiana, western Kentucky, and southeast
Missouri.

.DAY ONE...This Afternoon and Tonight

There is a Slight Risk (level 2 of 5) of severe storms late this
afternoon into tonight. The main threat is damaging winds, but
some large hail and a possible tornado cannot be ruled out. Heavy
rain will continue to bring a risk of localized flooding,
especially if and where storms can repeat over the same areas. A
Flood Watch is in effect through late tonight, refer to the Watch
for additional details.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Sunday through Friday

Thunderstorm chances continue through the weekend as well as into
the early week, mainly in the afternoons.

Conditions are favorable for the development of weak, brief funnel
clouds with ongoing showers and thunderstorms. This type of
funnel cloud is harmless, but on rare occasions they can briefly
touch down, producing wind gusts over 50 mph. If a funnel cloud is
spotted move indoors and report your sighting to the National
Weather Service.
