* WHAT...West winds 40 to 50 mph with gusts up to 70 mph expected.

* WHERE...Guadalupe Mountains of west Texas and Southeast New Mexico.

* WHEN...From 9 AM MDT /10 AM CDT/ to 9 PM MDT /10 PM CDT/ Tuesday.

* IMPACTS...Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile
  vehicles like campers, vans, and tractor trailers. Severe
  turbulence near the mountains will be hazardous for low flying
  light aircraft. Aviation interests may experience localized but
  extreme turbulence, or strong downward airflows if flying in the
  near the Guadalupe Mountains.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

People are urged to secure loose objects that could be blown around
or damaged by the wind.

Winds will be particularly hazardous at higher elevations where the
strongest winds are likely to occur. Be especially careful driving in
these mountainous areas. People driving high-profile vehicles should
strongly consider postponing travel in these areas until the winds
subside.

  week.

- High winds may impact the Guadalupe/Delaware Mountains at times
  during the early to middle part of the week, with breezy
  conditions also developing over southeast New Mexico and the
  Permian Basin.

Another beautiful day underway with temperatures climbing into the
70s and lots of sunshine. Southerly winds will continue to bring
Gulf moisture back into the area keeping low temperatures much
warmer than what we saw the last couple of nights. Weak mid-level
ridging builds in Monday as lee troughing develops at the surface.
This will give us more of a westerly wind component leading to a big
boost in temperatures. Highs Monday will reach the upper 80s to near
90 for everyone outside of the higher terrain. Strong subsidence
will keep us dry for the next few days.

An upper-level trough located across the southwestern CONUS sends
shortwave impulses over southeast New Mexico and west Texas on
Tuesday. Meanwhile, mid-level winds begin to strengthen and bring
breezy westerly winds across much of the area. Stronger winds can be
expected in the Guadalupe/Delaware Mountains where winds look to
reach High Wind criteria for at least a few hours. However, have
opted not to issue a Watch for now and let the next shift take
another look at the data before making a decision. Otherwise,
afternoon highs are forecast to be a few degrees cooler than
Monday's. Breezy conditions continue on Wednesday due to an
approaching cold front and afternoon highs fall another few degrees.
Behind the cold front, lows fall into the 40s and 50s for most
Wednesday night. Afternoon highs fall into the 70s for many on
Thursday and another upper-level trough approaches the region,
bringing low (10-30%) chances of showers and thunderstorms. However,
it should be noted that confidence in exact timing,
placement/coverage, and rainfall accumulations are low at the moment
due to uncertainty in the track of this feature and moisture
quality. These low chances of showers and thunderstorms look to
continue through Saturday as guidance depicts additional shortwave
impulses being sent across the area. Though changes in the forecast
are likely going to be made over the next several days as we monitor
trends with more data.
