in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin

Gusty winds, frequent lightning, and locally heavy rainfall will be the main threats with the strongest storms. - Above normal temperatures persist throughout this week. (Today through Tuesday afternoon) Issued at 148 AM CDT Mon Aug 17 2026 Radar imagery as of 1:45 AM CDT shows some showers across the Davis Mountains. These showers are associated with an upper low positioned south of the Davis Mountains, as seen on satellite. The low is expected to shift northwest into portions of far West Texas this afternoon. As a result, isolated showers/storms (10-30%) are in store again this afternoon and early evening across the Davis, Guadalupe Mountains, and far West Texas. High- resolution forecast soundings show inverted-V profiles and abundant DCAPE ( > 1100 J/kg) highlighting a threat of gusty winds with the strongest storms. Frequent lightning and locally heavy rainfall will also be primary hazards. High temperatures are forecast to range from the mid 90s to low 100s for most locations. By Tuesday, the upper-level ridge becomes the dominant feature as the low exits the region, resulting in dry conditions and slightly warmer temperatures in the upper 90s to low 100s.
