(Today through Thursday)
Issued at 1247 AM CDT Fri May 29 2026

Slack troughing across the Southern Plains today will keep
conditions fairly dry, sans an isolated shower from diurnal
heating or sea breeze interaction late in the day. Areas of patchy
fog should burn off soon after dawn. With the increase in
sunshine and light westerly breeze temperatures are forecast to
warm to the upper 80s across Acadiana while cities in Southeast
Tx are likely to see lower 90s across many inland backyards.

Weak upper level ridging will build in from the west through
Saturday morning which will further mitigate chances of rainfall
into the early weekend. Meanwhile, do expect overall highs to trend
into the low 90s with overnight lows staying above 70F. A trough is
later expected to deepen east of Mississippi on Sunday leading to an
increase in scattered rain chances over the forecast area by Monday.
Not holding a lot of faith in these middling chances as the primary
forcing dynamics aloft are forecast to be well east and north of the
area. That said, remnant frontal boundaries can still bind Gulf
moisture and allow diurnally driven showers / storms to form scattered
clusters. These chances do carry through the middle of next week
while high pressure builds over the Great Lake region.
Temperatures still expected to remain near par with climatological
norms with highs around 90F during that time.

Patchy light fog will lift rapidly this morning with sunrise with
VFR conditions then expected to prevail throughout the day. All
sites should see southwest winds around 5-10 kt during the day,
becoming light and variable after sunset. Guidance is showing
potential for some patchy light fog again overnight after 08-09Z,
bringing periods of MVFR or perhaps IFR visibility.
