...Forecast flooding changed from Minor to Moderate severity and
increased in duration for the following rivers in Indiana...
East Fork White River at Seymour.
.Multiple rounds of heavy rainfall over the last couple of days with
additional light to moderate rainfall throughout the day today will
bring widespread minor lowland river flooding to central and
southern Indiana. Isolated moderate flooding, particularly at
Seymour on the East Fork White, is expected as well. More rounds of
rainfall going into and through the holiday weekend could make the
flooding last longer and bring higher crests.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
Motorists should not attempt to drive around barricades or drive
cars through flooded areas.

* IMPACTS...At 13.2 feet, Lowland flooding in progress along
Driftwood River in northern Bartholomew County on April 6, 2011.
Double Y Saddle Club area flooded. At least 6 inches of water
flowing over CR 950N to Club. Water is less than one foot away
from CR 330W just south of its intersection with Ohio Ridge Rd. CR
500N west of CR 250W is flooded blocking vehicular access to
residences near the river bank. Lowell Public Access site is open
but ramp is totally flooded. Water close to one residence at
Shelby CR 1000S and CR 900W.

.Multiple rounds of heavy rainfall over the last couple of days
combined with light to moderate rainfall today is expected to bring
brief, minor lowland river flooding to the Columbus area on the
Flatrock River. Flooding likely will conclude by Thursday night.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.
Flooding is occurring or is imminent. Most flood related deaths
occur in automobiles. Do not attempt to cross water covered bridges,
dips, or low water crossings. Never try to cross a flowing stream,
even a small one, on foot. To escape rising water find another route
over higher ground.

East Fork White River at Williams.
.Multiple rounds of heavy rainfall over the last couple of days has
brought moderate flooding to the Seymour area on the East Fork White
and widespread minor lowland flooding the East Fork White basin. The
crest on the East Fork is near Columbus and Seymour, and on the
lower East Fork flooding is expected to last through most of next
week. More rounds of rainfall going into and through the holiday
weekend could make the flooding last even longer and bring higher
crests for downriver points.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

* WHERE...East Fork White River at Seymour.
* WHEN...Until early Tuesday morning.
* IMPACTS...At 18.0 feet, Extensive flooding is in progress. More
than 50 percent of the flood plain in Jackson County is
underwater. Flood waters near the east edge of Medora. High water
isolates wastewater treatment plant at Seymour. Many county roads
that do not cross the river begin to flood. Many state and county
roads are impassable by water. High water affects many rural
residents, but only a few evacuations are necessary. Flood waters
surround most river cabins.

Issued at 332 AM EDT Wed May 20 2026 Today - Precip along the cold front slowed southward progress this evening, but the boundary will continue to slowly sag through the region today. Upper level waves moving along the front will produce additional showers and a few thunderstorms today, primarily across the southeastern half of the area, and mainly through mid afternoon before rain chances rapidly taper off across the area. Will maintain the flood watch in place across the south given this expectation and continued plentiful deep moisture through midday. Relatively minimal instability will limit coverage and intensity of thunderstorms, with no severe weather expected. Tonight through Tuesday - High pressure will produce cooler conditions through much of the rest of the work week, with rain chances returning as a broad upper level low and associated shortwave disturbances pull a warmer and moist airmass back into the region.
