One final day of diurnal thunderstorms is left before we finally
set up into a dry period as a high pressure pushes cooler/drier
air down the spine of the Appalachians. Today's coverage looks to
be less than we've seen over the past few days, with a few storms
across the extreme southern part of our CWA capable of producing
strong gusty winds and small hail. Across the metro, isolated
thunderstorms will be possible this afternoon though the spread
will remain light compared to what we've seen the past week.
Winds today will be NE at 5-10 mph, gusting up to 15 mph this
afternoon.

Temperatures and dewpoints will be noticeably lower tomorrow.
Highs in the mid to low 70s over 45 degree dewpoints will make it
feel more like fall than the beginning of June. Plenty of
sunshine and no chance for afternoon thunderstorms should make it
a perfect day to get outside. I'm pleased to announce that this
trend will continue into the long term...

Dry and Mild Through Saturday:

Pleasant early-Summer weather will continue across North and
Central Georgia into the start of the weekend. Temperatures will
be around normal with highs in the low to mid 80s, but dewpoints
in the 50s will make things feel much less humid. Surface high
pressure over the Southeast and a mid-level ridge over the TN
Valley will keep winds generally out of the north to northeast,
ushering in a very dry airmass (PWAT values under 1"). This will
keep rain chances near zero across the area skies from Thursday
through Saturday.

Rain Chances Return Sunday Into Next Week:

From Sunday through early next week, the pattern will shift as
the aforementioned ridge gets pushed east by a trough moving into
the Southern Plains. Winds will turn out of the south-southwest
in response, bringing a warm and humid airmass back in from over
the Gulf. Model guidance still has some notable spread on how
quickly this switch will happen, but the consensus is that it
would begin on Sunday, with rain and thunderstorm chances each
day through early next week. At this time, models are depicting a
pattern that would support typical summertime thunderstorms, with
no widespread severe weather or flooding threats.

heavy rainfall that could lead to localized flooding.

...A strong thunderstorm will impact portions of northern Marion,
northeastern Muscogee, northeastern Chattahoochee and southwestern
Talbot Counties through 845 PM EDT...

At 820 PM EDT, a strong thunderstorm was near Baughville, or 7 miles
southwest of Talbotton, moving south at 25 mph.

HAZARD...Up to 40 mph wind, frequent cloud to ground lightning and
         heavy rain.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Expect minor damage to tree limbs and blowing around of
         light, unsecured objects. Heavy rain may cause temporary
         street flooding especially in poor drainage areas.

Locations impacted include...
Talbotton, Geneva, Upatoi, Box Springs, Marion Estates, Juniper,
Eelbeck/West Fort Benning, Baughville, and Oakland.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

People outdoors should seek shelter immediately. If you can hear
thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Motorists
should slow down and be prepared for possible loss of control due to
hydroplaning.
