-  Scattered thunderstorms will be possible each day this week
   posing a threat for gusty winds and locally heavy rainfall.

-  Impactful heat is becoming increasingly likely as heat indices
   climb into the 100s during the late week and into the weekend.

.SHORT TERM...
(Today through Friday)

The northwest flow pattern we have experienced the past couple of
days will begin to shift late today into tomorrow as the
subtropical ridging begins building northward into the area. For
today, likely to see isolated to scattered thunderstorms as the
pattern begins to shift. Cape values in the 1500-2500 J/kg range,
very little shear and PWATs in the 1.8-2.3"+ range will result in
the main threats with any storms that form will be gusty winds
(40-50mph) and locally heavy rainfall. Pushing into tomorrow, the
ridging will fully push into Georgia which is likely to limit any
linear nature to storm coverage to the Carolinas versus here.
Nevertheless, there are still chances for isolated to scattered
thunderstorms again tomorrow afternoon and evening aided by the
high temperatures and humidity.

Temperatures will be the main story as we begin the pattern of hot
and humid conditions through the weekend. For today, high
temperatures are forecast to be in the mid to upper 90s across the
area which in combination with above average moisture will lead to
heat index values in the 100-108 range for much of north and
central Georgia. A heat advisory is in effect for areas of central
and eastern Georgia today as a result. For tomorrow, the high
temperatures will again be in the mid to upper 90s which puts much
of the area in the 100-108 range again for heat index values. Will
need another heat advisory for Friday. Although high temperatures
will stay well below the record highs, the low temperatures will
be flirting with the record high mins over the next several days
for many sites with lows in the mid 70s.

.LONG TERM...
(Friday night through Wednesday)

The Long-Term period begins with a ridge centered over the
Mississippi Valley region, which will amplify and build eastward,
governing the forecast over the extended period. As it does,
oppressive heat and humidity will ensue from Friday through the
beginning of next week, with high temperatures building into the mid
to upper 90s over most of the CWA, outside of the far northeastern
mountains. These higher temperatures, in combination with
precipitable water values ranging from 1.8-2.3 inches and dew points
in the upper 70s, will create unsafe afternoon conditions. As a
result, heat index values in the 105-110F range are expected in the
central and eastern counties by Friday and across most of the CWA by
the start of the weekend, likely warranting the issuance of a Heat
Advisory each day.

The suppressive high-pressure conditions should support a reduction
in precipitation chances through the beginning of next week, with
models showing diurnal thunderstorm chances dwindling to isolated
coverage as we move into the weekend. One caveat is the continuation
of northwest flow, at least through Friday, followed by any
disturbances that may transit the periphery of the ridge, which
could enhance or trigger a few more afternoon thunderstorms than
currently expected. If so, some of these stronger storms could

Scattered TSRA has developed across much of north and central
Georgia and is forecast to continue through the late afternoon.
There is a TEMPO for TSRA at ATL from 18-22Z to account for
convection over the metro area. A VFR cu field between 035-050
will persist through the afternoon as well. W/NW winds of 6-10 kts
today will diminish to 5 kts or less overnight. Scattered diurnal
storms are expected once again on Friday, warranting a PROB30 for
TSRA from 18-23Z.

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for north and central Georgia.

.DAY ONE...Today and Tonight...

Isolated to scattered thunderstorms will be possible this
afternoon across the area with the main threats being gusty winds,
small hail, frequent lightning, and heavy rainfall.

A Heat Advisory is in effect for portions of central and east
Georgia from 1 PM to 8 PM EDT on Thursday for heat index values
between 105 to 108 degrees.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Friday through Wednesday...

Hot and humid conditions will persist through the weekend, with
heat indices in the triple digits each day.

Isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected each
afternoon through the week. Locally heavy rainfall and gusty
winds will be primary storm threats.

County through 115 PM EDT...

At 1241 PM EDT, a strong thunderstorm was over Shoulderbone, or 8
miles northwest of Sparta, moving southeast at 15 mph.

HAZARD...Up to 40 mph wind, pea sized hail and frequent cloud to
         ground lightning.

IMPACT...Expect minor damage to tree limbs and blowing around of
         light, unsecured objects.

Twiggs and northeastern Houston Counties through 145 PM EDT...

At 116 PM EDT, a strong thunderstorm was over Huber, or 11 miles west
of Jeffersonville, moving southeast at 20 mph.

HAZARD...Up to 40 mph wind, pea sized hail and frequent cloud to
         ground lightning.

IMPACT...Expect minor damage to tree limbs and blowing around of
         light, unsecured objects.
