...THE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING FOR SOUTHERN BARROW AND
NORTHEASTERN WALTON COUNTIES WILL EXPIRE AT 730 PM EDT...

The storm which prompted the warning has weakened below severe
limits, and no longer poses an immediate threat to life or property.
Therefore, the warning will be allowed to expire.  However, gusty
winds and heavy rain are still possible with this thunderstorm.

.KEY MESSAGES...

-  Strong downburst winds will be possible both today and on
   Tuesday.

-  Scattered thunderstorms will be possible each day this week
   posing a threat for gusty winds and locally heavy rainfall.

-  Impactful heat is becoming increasingly likely as heat indices
   return to the mid 90s to low 100s by the middle of the week.

.SHORT TERM...

Another round of isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms
expected again this afternoon and evening. The over all pattern
has not changed much but the old boundary from yesterday is now
oriented more E to W across North GA. Hi-Res models showing this
front acting as a catalyst again today for storms to fire along.
Main surface to mid level Bermuda ridge centered just off the
GA/SC coast is strengthening and building west across FL and
across the Gulf. This vertically stacked ridge axis stays south
of the state keeping GA in westerly flow. This building ridge is
not allowing the old boundary to move south and it may limit
storm potential over central Georgia to more of an isolated
chance. Currently expecting similar coverage as yesterday. With
PWATs in the 1.8" to 2.1" range and MU CAPE values expected in the
1500-2300 J/kg range, the main threats will continue to be gusty
winds, frequent lightning strikes, and locally heavy rainfall. An
isolated severe storm or two can also be expected.

Tuesday will be much of the same pattern although central Georgia
could see a bit more coverage. Models showing a Wedge/Ridge building
southwest down the eastern seaboard and pushing that old boundary
into central GA.

Temperature Tuesday will be a deg or two warmer than today
especially across east central GA. We could see some locations
have a couple of hours closer to 105 but should stay just below
heat advisory criteria will have to keep a close eye on how things
develop.

.LONG TERM...
(Wednesday morning through next Sunday)

The main story for the extended period will be rising temperatures
and the potential for impactful heat late this week into the
upcoming weekend. The set up responsible for these trends will be an
eastward migrating mid-level ridge, currently over the Desert
Southwest and high pressure at the surface. Temperatures are
forecast to rise to the upper 80s to low 90s (outside of the higher
elevations) by Wednesday, with temperatures trending upward a degree
or two each day going forward. Increasing moisture will support the
return of dewpoints in the mid-to-upper 70s and PWs in excess of
1.5". Thus, heat index values ('feels like' temperatures) return to
triple digit values for most places heading into the next weekend.
Heat headlines may be necessary in future forecasts. In the
meantime, be mindful of the heat as you plan for any outdoor work or
activities over the next 7 days.

Any disturbances that translate through the the mid/upper level flow
may act to locally enhance thunderstorm activity on any given day. A
few MCSs (thunderstorm complexes) look to pass just to our north and
east over the next few days but could clip parts of Northeast
GA...something to watch as models generally struggle with the
evolution of these features. Otherwise, expect at least low chances
(20-30%) for afternoon and evening thunderstorms over the next 5-7
days.

VFR ceilings with NW to SW winds in the 4-8kt range this
afternoon/evening. Expecting another round of diurnally driven
storms so could see some MVFR ceilings and gusty VRB winds in and
around convection. Winds go light and variable overnight and stay
out of W to SW in the 4-8kt range Tue. Will see more Isolated to
Scattered afternoon SHRA/TSRA Tue. Will see MVFR VSBYs in and
around any convection but otherwise no restrictions to VSBYs
expected.

Isolated to scattered thunderstorms are possible this afternoon
and evening across mainly north Georgia. Isolated severe storms
can also be expected. Primary threats will be strong gusty winds,
small hail, frequent lightning strikes, and periods of heavy
rainfall capable of producing some isolated flash flooding.

Isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected each
afternoon through the week. Locally heavy rainfall and gusty
winds will be primary storm threats.
