.KEY MESSAGES...

 - Chances for afternoon showers and thunderstorms will continue
   through Sunday. A few storms across far north Georgia may
   become strong to severe and capable of producing an isolated
   damaging wind gust on Saturday.

 - Heat will build this weekend into next week, with afternoon
   highs climbing into the 90s and heat index values over 100
   from Sunday on.

 - Isolated to scattered thunderstorms are possible each afternoon
   through next week.

Isolated to scattered popup showers and thunderstorms have begun to
develop across much of northern Georgia and the Atlanta metro into
central Georgia. Daytime heating occurred quickly this morning into
midday, with the temperature at ATL already at 91F. Surface CAPE
with the 12Z sounding was 2042 J/kg. There remains a Marginal risk
(1 out of 5) over portions of N GA (and a Slight risk (2 out of 5)
for the northeastern-most counties in the CWA) for severe
thunderstorms; the main threats will be damaging winds and frequent
lightning. Locally heavy rainfall is also possible with any/all
thunderstorms.

Convection is possible again tomorrow afternoon, mostly over north
Georgia; less coverage and intensity is likely with any development
tomorrow afternoon. Daytime highs will be in the mid 80s to upper
90s across northern and central Georgia, with heat indices forecast
to be between 85 and 105F. This does not yet warrant a Heat
Advisory, but temperature trends will be monitored closely for the
threat of these hazardously high temperatures/heat indices.

A strong ridge of high pressure will be the main event during the
long term period. Given the strong ridge of high pressure, calm and
dry conditions are expected through much of the period. With that
said, dangerously hot temperatures and heat index values are
expected.

Some low end PoPs are possible underneath this ridge but the main
hazard will be the hot and humid conditions leading to dangerous
heat index values this weekend and into early next week.

Temperatures are expected to be above average. Max heat index values
will likely get into the upper 90s to just over 100 degrees across
much of the state by late this weekend and continuing into early
next week.
