A frontal boundary remains stalled to the south of the Atlanta metro
area, oriented roughly from NW to SE. Numerous showers and
thunderstorms have developed along and south of this front. With
deep atmospheric moisture south of the front in central Georgia,
these storms will be capable of producing locally heavy rainfall,
with hourly rainfall rates of 2-3 inches an hour. Furthermore,
storms will likely train parallel to the boundary as they move from
NW to SE, so strong storms producing heavy rainfall moving over
common locations will lead to an increased risk for flash flooding
this afternoon and into the evening. Aside from flash flooding
concerns, stronger storms that develop will be capable of producing
gusty winds and frequent lightning. Because of this, WPC has
maintained a Slight Risk (level 2 of 4) for Excessive Rainfall in
portions of central Georgia.

Comparatively drier conditions are expected  to the north of the
front, with only isolated thunderstorms possible as far north as I-
20 and even lesser chances in the far northern tier. High
temperatures this afternoon will rise into the mid 80s in north
Georgia and upper 80s in central Georgia. Overnight into Sunday,
southwesterly winds at the low and mid levels will increase ahead of
a system over the Midwest. This will bring more warm and moist air
into the forecast area from the Gulf as today's frontal boundary
advances north as a warm front. Sunday morning will begin with lows
in the mid to upper 60s, with low clouds across central and parts of
north Georgia amid ample moisture. Warm air advection will have
highs climbing into the upper 80s to low 90s on Sunday afternoon.
Heat index values will also climb into the upper 90s in portions of
central Georgia during the peak heating hours. Subtle mid-level
ridging over the region will serve to inhibit convective
development, though isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms
(25-40% PoPs) will still break through during the afternoon and
evening.

Upper ridging will amplify across the southwest US early this week,
placing our area within northwest flow aloft. With a moist airmass
in place, expect daily chances for isolated to scattered showers and
thunderstorms to continue through much of the week. Perhaps the
highest overall chances will occur Monday afternoon/evening (north
GA) into Tuesday (western/central GA) as a cold front moves into the
area from the north. A few storms could be strong with gusty winds,
frequent lightning, and locally heavy rain.

Temperatures are forecast to be near average through the week, with
mid 80s north to near 90 south. However, the humid airmass will help
push heat index values to near or over 100 degrees at times,
especially for portions of central and southern GA on Monday and
Tuesday.

Scattered TSRA has begun to develop in portions of central
Georgia, which will persist through the late afternoon. A TEMPO
for TSRA is in place from 19-23Z for CSG/MCN. Isolated storms
could spread as far north as I-20, warranting a PROB30 for TSRA
at ATL from 20-24Z. SHRA/TSRA coverage will diminish after
sunset. Conditions are largely VFR (aside from lingering MVFR
ceilings at CSG), with a cu field around 4-5 kft under broken mid-
level clouds. Widespread IFR ceilings are likely to develop after
08Z at CSG/MCN. Scattered IFR could spread as far north as ATL
after 10Z. Winds have shifted to W at 4-8 kts and will remain so
until becoming light and variable overnight.
