At 758 PM EDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line
extending from Lee Pope to near Huntington, moving east at 40 mph.

HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Tornado Watch remains in effect until 1100 PM EDT for central and
west central Georgia.

.KEY MESSAGES...

  - A Flash Flood Watch is in effect from Thursday morning until
    early Saturday morning for portions of central GA and the ATL
    metro. Widespread rainfall of 2-4" with locally higher amounts
    of 5" or more are expected.

  - Some severe weather may be possible on Thursday. Primary
    threats would be damaging wind gusts and a few tornadoes.

  - A Wind Advisory is in effect from 6pm Thursday to 8am Friday.
    Strong non-thunderstorm winds gusts in excess of 35 mph
    combined with heavy rain could lead to some isolated tree
    falls across the area.

The remnants of Tropical Storm Arthur continue to make their way
eastward toward Georgia, pushing abundant tropical moisture over the
state. Ahead of this, a mostly sunny morning has yielded substantial
heating across northern and central GA, providing further
instability (temperatures away from precipitation are in the low
80s to near 90 as of 2 PM EDT). The 18Z upper air observation
shows a surface CAPE of 3620 J/kg. Winds veer with height; WSW
winds at around 40 kts were observed at 850 hPa. The shear in the
lowest km is 23 kts. A Tornado Watch has been issued for portions
of central GA into the Atlanta metro through 11 PM EDT, for the
threat for some brief tornadoes starting over western portions of
the state, near the AL border and spreading northeastward. Some of
the 35-40 kt winds around 850 hPa are likely to mix down through
the evening - gusts to 25-40 mph are possible, including outside
of thunderstorms, this evening into tonight. Significant rainfall
is expected, with heavy rain/deluges at times, resulting in high
rainfall rates and rapid accumulations, which could result in the
quick development of hazardous flooding conditions. Rainfall
amounts on the order of 1-4 inches are anticipated, with locally
higher amounts possible. The combination of significant rainfall
and strong winds enhances the risk of downed trees.

Winds decrease late tonight/early tomorrow morning, becoming west to
northwest at around 10-15 mph. Showers linger into the morning, and
cloudy conditions are likely into midday. Popup thunderstorms are
anticipated tomorrow afternoon - less vigorous activity and less
coverage is expected compared to today.

To begin the period, a cold front will push into the area with
tropical moisture associated with the remnants of TS Arthur pushing
out the area. This cold front is expected to stall Sunday with
increased PoPs likely by Sunday afternoon.

Low end rain chances will be possible each afternoon next week as
ridging builds in to the south. This will promote more humid
conditions across the state, with a summer-like pattern likely next
week. Afternoon convection will be possible each day, with afternoon
rain chances around 30-40 percent. Coverage would not be widespread
but more scattered.

Temperatures are expect to return to average or slightly above
average as high pressure centers itself just south of the state. Max
heat index values will return to the upper 90s to near 100 degrees
for central and southern locations.

Showers, periods of rain, and thunderstorms are expected for all
TAF sites through the night. Southwest winds prevail outside of TS-
induced winds, with speeds increasing through the afternoon to
around 15-20 kts, with gusts to 25-35 kts. Winds subside after 06Z,
becoming W/NW at around 8-12 kts by around 16Z. Cigs lower through
the evening and night. Aft 00Z, LIFR exp for Atlanta metro sites and
AHN, IFR for MCN & CSG, until around 14-17Z (becmg MVFR). TS are
psbl again tmrw aft 20Z for ATL.

.DAY ONE...This Afternoon and Tonight...

A Flood Watch is in effect for portions of central Georgia and the
Atlanta metro from Thursday morning until early Saturday. Several
rounds of heavy rainfall will be possible this afternoon into
Friday. Widespread rainfall amounts of 2-4" are expected with
locally higher amounts of 5" or more. Flash flooding and some
river flooding will be possible as a result.

A Tornado Watch is in effect for an area extending from southwest
Georgia to as far north as the Atlanta metro until 11 PM EDT this
evening. The most immediate threat for brief tornadoes is across
west Georgia, with the risk expanding north and east through the
evening.

Wind gusts as high as 35 mph tonight could bring down tree limbs
and lead to isolated power outages.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Friday through Wednesday...

The Flood Watch will remain in effect until 2 AM Saturday morning.
With saturated soils from previous rainfall, flash flooding will
remain possible where heavy rain occurs.

Daily thunderstorm chances will continue through most of next
week. A few storms could become strong to severe and bring the
risk for heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and frequent lightning.

Meriwether, Muscogee and Harris Counties through 645 PM EDT...

At 602 PM EDT, National Weather Service doppler radar indicated a
line of strong thunderstorms along a line extending from near River
View to Russell County Sports Complex, and moving northeast at 50
mph.

HAZARD...40 to 50 mph wind and increased chance of a brief tornado.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...While winds should result in minor damage to tree limbs and
         blowing around of light, unsecured objects, the leading
         edge of this line of storms has also exhibited areas of
         localized rotation. A brief tornado could quickly form.

Columbus, Hamilton, Pine Mountain, North Fort Benning, Pine
Mountain-Callaway Gardens, Bibb City, Goat Rock Lake, Ellerslie,
