Convective coverage will be lower (but not zero) this afternoon
and again on Thursday as broad upper ridging remains expansive
across the South. Locally heavy rainfall and lightning will be
possible in a few cells before quickly dissipating after sunset.
Muggy and warm conditions will then prevail overnight with
forecast lows in the 70s only a couple degrees removed from record
warm daily mins.

As mentioned above, Thursday will again bring suppressed
convective coverage of the isolated diurnal variety. High
temperatures will also warm a notch above today with the bulk of
the area reaching the low 90s with mid 90s in parts of Middle
Georgia. Given continued steamy dewpoints in the 70s, afternoon
heat index values will creep into the upper 90s to low 100s -
veritably hot, but shy of Heat Advisory criteria.

Warm with Isolated Showers/Storms Through Saturday:

Typical summertime weather will continue through Saturday, with
warm and humid conditions and daily afternoon showers and
thunderstorms. A mid-level ridge over the region will try its
hardest to prevent much from popping up, but sufficient moisture
(PWAT values of 1.5" or more) and heating will allow convection to
fire. While no widespread severe weather is anticipated at this
time, we could see a strong storm or two each day, capable of
producing frequent lightning, heavy rainfall, and gusty winds.
This threat would be highest on Saturday as a weakening front
pushes into the Southeast. High temperatures will be in the low to
mid 90s each day, with heat index values in the 95-100 range in
North GA, and 100-110 in Central GA.

Wetter Pattern Likely Returns Sunday into Next Week:

On Sunday, model guidance is in good agreement on the ridge
breaking down as a potent shortwave dives across the Midwest and
sends a front into the Southeast. This will be the start of a
period of wet weather lasting through the middle next week, as
longwave troughing establishes over most of the eastern US and
flow over Georgia turns out of west to southwest. Moisture surging
in off the Gulf will bring PWAT values up to around 2" by Monday,
supporting numerous to widespread showers and storms through at
least Tuesday. At the minimum, this amount of moisture in the
atmosphere would create potential flash flood concerns with any
afternoon convection. If stronger forcing came into play, which
some guidance is showing with approaching fronts/shortwaves, that
would only increase the flash flood threat. Severe weather may
also become a threat, depending on the timing and location of any
stronger forcing moving across the region. While it will remain
quite humid, the amount of cloud cover will likely knock
temperatures down a bit from what we see this week.

VFR conditions will prevail at each terminal through the duration
of the TAF period. Light SW winds will remain through the TAF
cycle with some locations going calm overnight before picking back
up to around 5 KTS after sunrise. A scattered Cu field is expected
again tomorrow afternoon with a low chance of showers after 18Z.
Confidence in shower location is currently too low to include in
the TAF.
