...FROST ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT TONIGHT TO 9 AM EDT
SUNDAY...

* WHAT...Temperatures as low as 33 will result in frost formation.

* WHERE...Dawson, Fannin, Gilmer, Lumpkin, Union, Towns, and White
  Counties. Concerns are primarily in the mountains and valleys of
  these counties.

* WHEN...From midnight tonight to 9 AM EDT Sunday.

* IMPACTS...Frost could harm sensitive outdoor vegetation. Sensitive
  outdoor plants may be killed if left uncovered.

  mountains of north Georgia and may require a frost advisory.
  Climate sites may see near record lows.

- Shower and thunderstorm chances return mid next week, though
  exact location, timing and intensity remains uncertain.

.SHORT TERM...
(Today through Sunday)
Issued at 336 AM EDT Sat May 2 2026

The short term starts off with a developing closed low center
across south GA moving east with Showers across the state. This
low center will push off the GA coast around sunrise and move up
the eastern seaboard through this evening. This low center will
pull the frontal boundary and its associated showers offshore as
well allowing a drier airmass to move into the region through
Sunday. The showers will be ending from NW to SE across the state
today with clearing conditions expected this afternoon/evening as
high pressure begins to build into the area from the West. Some
locations across central GA will see an additional 0.5" to 1" of
rain before the precipitation comes to an end. Most locations
across North GA will be lucky to see 0.1" to 0.5" today. Things
clear out Sunday and continue to stay clear into the extended
periods.

This boundary exiting the area will not only end our precip
chances but it also ushers in a slightly cooler airmass with
temps today expected in the 60s to near 70. Low temps tonight will
dip down into the 40s with some upper 30s in the NE GA mountains.
Temps Sunday will still be slightly below normal for this time of
year but will begin to rebound with highs in the lower to middle
70s.

.LONG TERM...
(Sunday night through Friday)

The long term picks up with expansive surface high pressure situated
across the Southeast, bringing below normal temperatures Monday
morning. While not as chilly as the previous night, lows in the 40s
are expected areawide. A warming trend will begin on Monday as high
pressure shifts east and midlevel flow becomes more zonal and
transitions into broad ridging. High temperatures will thus rebound
back to near normal (upper 70s to mid 80s).

The next chance for precipitation arrives by mid-to-late week,
likely somewhere in the late Wednesday into Thursday time frame,
though timing continues to remain uncertain at this juncture. We'll
need to monitor thunderstorm potential with this next
trough/associated surface front, though current timing uncertainties
also fold into uncertainties regarding warm sector quality, etc.
Behind this system, another cooldown is likely by late week as high
pressure brings a return to drier weather.

VFR cloud cover and -SHRA will continue to impact TAF sites for
next few hours. At ATL, expect SHRA will pull out by 14Z. Sky
cover will improve through afternoon, with clearing going into the
overnight. Winds will remain from NW at most all sites through TAF
period, 5-10 kts. No other impacts expected at this time.

.DAY ONE...Today and Tonight...

The probability for widespread hazardous weather is low.

Widespread rain showers will taper off through the morning hours.
While unlikely, a rumble of thunder or two is not out of the
question in central Georgia.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Sunday through Friday...

Temperatures fall Saturday night into Sunday. Morning lows across
the mountains of north Georgia may fall into the mid to upper 30s.
Patchy frost may be possible, especially in low lying areas.

Isolated to scattered thunderstorms are possible once again on
Wednesday. A few storms may be possible, capable of producing
gusty winds, frequent lightning, and locally heavy rainfall.
