.SYNOPSIS...Isolated showers and thunderstorms will quickly
dissipate this morning.Conditions will be cool for one night tonight
before much warmer than normal conditions build into the weekend.

.KEY MESSAGES...

-Isolated showers and small hail will gradually dissipate Thursday
morning.

-Much warmer and drier conditions rapidly building Friday and into
the weekend.

-Chance (30%) of wetting rain return mid next week.

.DISCUSSION...A cold front is exiting the areas as of late Wednesday
night. Steady rain falling through the day Wednesday generally
dropped 1.0 to 2.5 inches of rain across the northern half of the
area with 0.4 to 0.8 inches in most of Lake and Mendocino Counties.
Rainfall amounts even managed to barely break the daily rainfall
record for Eureka.

Cutoff low pressure passing immediately across the Oregon border has
provided just enough instability and cold air to produce isolated
thunderstorms and small hail early this morning. A threat of small
hail will persist into the early Thursday morning, though chances
will steadily pull back to near zero by mid morning. With snow
levels currently around 3500 feet, some wet slushy snow has likely
impacted Highway 3 overnight in Trinity County. Light snow is
possible as low as 3000 feet very early Thursday, but new
accumulation will almost certainly remain below 1.0 inch.

A ridge of high pressure will begin to rapidly build over the area
Thursday. Lingering clouds and moisture will help keep conditions
cooler on Thursday in the mid 60s for most of the interior. Clear
skies and rapidly drying air may support some frost formation early
Friday morning. Chances are greatest in northern Mendocino County,
but still highly uncertain (50% chance) due to potential fog
formation. Meanwhile, enhanced northeast winds overnight in Lake
County will likely inhibit any frost there.

Solidly warmer than normal conditions will arrive by Friday. Warming
will peak this weekend with interior high temperatures in the low to
mid 80s. Marine air will be restricted to a shallow marine layer at
the coast, especially after moderate north winds along shore on
Friday give way to nearly calm winds this weekend.

There is high confidence that high pressure will gradually weaken by
early next week with a low pressure system moving in along shore.
The path, strength, and moisture associated with this low remains
highly variable however. About 35% of model ensemble members suggest
wetting rain across the northern half of the area, though less than
10% show potential for any amount over 1.0 inch. /JHW

.AVIATION...(02/06Z TAFs)...Mostly VFR conditions at all TAF sites,
with periods of MVFR ceilings through at least 19Z due to SHRA
moving across the area. There is a PROB30 -TSRAGS through 02/09Z for
KCEC. Shower activity is expected to gradually diminish throughout
the day on Thursday. Surface winds from W at 5-10 kts with
occasional higher gusts, shifting to the north and becoming
lighter after 03/00Z. /ZVS

.MARINE...A very steep and hazardous westerly swell will start build
in overnight, reaching 10-15 feet at 12 seconds early Thursday. A
Hazardous Seas Warning remain in effect through Thursday afternoon
for the northern waters, while small crafts advisory for the
southern waters. Large westerly swells will gradually subside
Thursday night through Friday night, with hazardous conditions for
small crafts across all waters.

Moderate to strong westerly winds, shifting to north and diminishing
Thursday morning. Northerlies gradually strengthen from south to
north Thursday afternoon through Friday, peaking to fresh to strong
breezes Friday afternoon, with localized gale force gusts south of
Cape Mendocino. Conditions will improve on Saturday, with calmer
conditions beginning by late Saturday. /ZVS
