Issued at 1234 PM CDT Thu Apr 2 2026

A surface low pressure will develop this afternoon across northeast
Colorado and trek eastward tonight into tomorrow. This will allow
winds to shift to the south with an increase in speed this afternoon
then shift to the north behind a cold front towards sunrise
tomorrow. Strong northerly winds are expected throughout tomorrow
then decrease in speed tomorrow night as the pressure gradient
decreases across western Kansas. RHs in the teens will accompany the
winds tomorrow increasing fire danger. Fire headlines may need to be
issued if this pattern continues in future model runs. Skies above
western Kansas should remain mostly clear throughout the day with
increased high level cloudiness overnight. Mostly clear skies return
tomorrow with the exception of central Kansas where mid level cloud
may be found in the afternoon. There looks to be thunderstorms to
develop along the cold front tomorrow afternoon/evening but I
believe any thunderstorm activity will remain out of our CWA. As for
temperatures highs today look to reach into the 70s with around 80
degrees along the KS/OK border. Lows tonight are expected to range
from the low 40s across west central Kansas to upper 50s across
south central Kansas. Highs tomorrow look to range from the mid 60s
across west central Kansas to upper 70s across south central Kansas.
Lows tomorrow night are currently ranging from around 30 degrees
across west central Kansas to around 40 degrees across south central
Kansas.

The rest of the forecast remains dry as upper level ridging builds
over the western United States with an upper level trough over the
eastern United States. Northwest flow will be observed over western
Kansas suppressing any activity from forming. Low RHs will continue
to be felt during the afternoon hours through this period, but as of
now winds look to remain light until the mid part of next week. As
for temperatures, highs look to reach into the 60s Saturday with 70s
Sunday into the first part of next week. Highs in the upper 70s to
low 80s return mid week. Lows will generally be in the 30s to 40s
with around 50 degrees across central Kansas as we head into the
mid part of next week.

Winds will shift to the south with an increase in speed this
afternoon and continue throughout the night. LLWS will be
possible after midnight then confined to the DDC and HYS

overnight.
