.SHORT TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...

Lets start off the short term period looking at the upper levels.
Currently we are sitting under west northwest flow as ridging builds
across the Desert Southwest, pushing into our region as we sit in
the northeast quadrant. This set-up plays a huge role in what to
expect in the short term with regards to elevated to critical fire
weather concerns. This orientation will not be favorable for a
monsoonal push of moisture, so we will remain dry through this
forecast period. We will see minimum RH values tank over the next
day to as low as 5 percent, with many locations around 10 percent
across the CWA. Winds are not what we look for, but with how dry it
has been and how dry it will be, Red Flag Warnings for much of
southeast Wyoming that were issued yesterday are still valid for
Thursday. The Nebraska Panhandle will be left out as of now since
they will stay below critical thresholds that we look for with
regards to issuing Red Flag Warnings.

In other news, said ridge will aid in bringing back hot southerly
flow into our region. This is depicted nicely with 700MB
temperatures surging back into the 16-20 degrees C range by Thursday
afternoon. This will be reflected nicely at the surface with highs
topping out in the 90s to near 100, hottest across the Nebraska
Panhandle. Slightly cooler west of the I-25 corridor where highs
will top out in the upper 80s to near 90. Taking a quick look at
winds, not much to write about there either as no high wind events
in the foreseeable future.

.LONG TERM /FRIDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
Issued at 212 PM MDT Wed Aug 5 2026

With this synoptic setup, we will see much of the same weather
over the forecast period. Friday starts us off with the ridge
over our area. This will bring warm temperatures and dry air to
the CWA. The 700mb temperatures are in the mid teens to lower
20C, supporting warm temperatures across the CWA, before
temperatures return to the mid teens on Tuesday, cooling the
area down some. Fire weather will be a concern through this
forecast period with dry air, gusty winds, and little to no
chances of precipitation through Monday. Daytime RH values go
down to the single digits to teens each day with little
overnight recovery. Fire weather has the potential to become
critical with any increases in winds. Monday afternoon through
Tuesday, a trough starts building over the PNW, potentially
drawing in some moisture and giving some relief to fire weather
conditions as it nears closer to our area.

VFR and mainly clear skies expected for the forecast period.
Expect west to northwest winds gusting 20 to 25 knots in
Wyoming today. Southerly winds in Nebraska will weaken and/or
become variable later this afternoon. Look for lighter winds all
across the area overnight. A weak cool front will turn winds to
the north or northeast over the High Plains Friday morning.
While smoke will continue to filter through the area,
concentrations are expected to be low enough to prevent
significant VIS reductions.
