Another cold day is in store for Sunday as another arctic front
pushes south into the CWA during the late morning hours. This arctic
front will bring 700mb down into the -25 to -20C range Sunday
afternoon, leading to daytime highs struggling to get out of the
single digits across the area. Additionally, with upper-level
trough, cloud cover is expected to develop this morning and remain
in place throughout the day, further reducing daytime heating across
the CWA. Did decrease daytime temperatures slightly as the front
looks to move through before any major daytime heating can occur.
These cold temperatures will continue throughout the day Sunday and
into the Monday morning hours. Unfortunately, 700mb winds look to
return to westerly shortly after the frontal passage, with
increasing 700mb height gradients across the region. With cold
temperatures in place overnight Sunday into Monday morning and
increasing winds, wind chill values are expected to drop towards the
-20F range for portions of southeast Wyoming. As a result, have
added Goshen County, as well as central and eastern Laramie County
to a Cold Weather Advisory that will run from 5PM Sunday through 5AM
Monday morning. Additionally, extended the Cold Weather Advisory for
Niobrara County and the Nebraska Panhandle through 8AM Monday.
High wind potential increases significantly by 06Z Monday as the
700mb gradients begin to increase and stronger downward motion
returns behind the front. 700mb winds look to increase to 50 to
55kts by 15Z Monday, with very strong surface gradients developing
near arlington and along the Laramie Range. Craig to Casper height
gradients jump into the low- to mid-80s, with in house random forest
guidance pinging a 70 to 75% chance for high winds at Arlington and
an 80+% chance for Bordeaux. Therefore, increased the winds in the
typical wind prone regions towards high wind criteria and issued
High Wind Watches for Arlington, Bordeaux, the I-80 Summit, and
Foothills from early Monday through early Tuesday. Downward omegas
are not overly favorable for high winds to encroach into the wind
prone adjacent zones, but will let day crew take another look to
determine if the Watches should be upgraded and/or expanded
eastward. Thankfully, with strong winds comes warmer temperatures.
Temperatures begin a warming trend Monday through Wednesday before
plateauing Thursday onwards.

Latest model guidance indicates high pressure controlling the region
during the long term, keeping us quiet and near to above normal for
temperatures through the course of the work week.
Highs will range daily in the 40's, with Wednesday the "warmest" day
of the week as some highs approach 50. Passing shortwaves to the
north will stop us from getting any warmer though, and will also
bring a threat of high winds. The first will occur on Monday where
in house guidance has increased in confidence on strong gusts across
our usual wind prone locations in WY. Probabilities for
Arlington and Bordeaux are now up to 70-90% of seeing gusts 58+
mph, giving high confidence we'll see the return of High Wind
Warnings on Monday. Meanwhile even neighboring locations are
starting to see probabilities on the rise thanks to notable
increases in both pressure gradients and the low level jet, with
Cheyenne now up to a 30% probability of high wind gusts - not
quite anything to write home about, but showcasing how these
speeds may now overspread into neighboring zones. Another
passing trough on Wednesday should bring round 2 of potential
High Winds, as probabilities are now up to 70% for Bordeaux.
Overall it appears our weekend descent into winter weather will
be short lived, with our usual high winds back on tap for next
week.

terminals across the CWA this morning with MVFR to IFR
conditions, as low as LIFR at times. Skies will clear out by
03/04Z this evening, resulting in a return of VFR conditions for
all terminals. After the snow stops and skies clear, winds will
ramp up overnight into Monday morning with gusts up to 35 knots
at the tail end of this forecast.
