AFTERNOON FOR CENTRAL CHEROKEE COUNTY...

At 246 PM CDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated
thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Flash
flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.

HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

SOURCE...Radar and automated gauges.

IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas,
         highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor
         drainage and low-lying areas.

Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
  Gaylesville, Blanche, Cornwall Furnace Park, Broomtown, Fullerton
  and New Moon.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

- Major Heat Risk: A heat advisory is in effect on Wednesday from
  1 pm to 9 pm on Wednesday with additional heat advisories likely
  to be issued for later this week. There is high confidence in
  dangerous heat with heat indices reaching 105-110°F daily from
  Wednesday through the weekend.

- Severe Storms: A few storms may become severe, producing
  damaging winds across portions of our eastern and northeastern
  counties Tuesday afternoon and evening.

Issued at 1033 PM CDT MON AUG 10 2026

Water vapor imagery this evening reveals upper level ridging
beginning to take shape across the southeast. An upper level
trough can be seen well to our north, which is helping guide an
area of convection just south of the Great Lakes. The weak ridge
axis in place across the south will slowly shift west over the
next several days, eventually expanding and strengthening late
this week and into the weekend. This will allow for temps to
steadily warm up through the week with highs eventually settling
into the mid to upper 90s for most of Central Alabama. Continued
humid conditions combined with these temps will bump heat indices
into the 105-110 degree range. Heat Advisories will be likely
daily starting Wednesday. The latest ECMWF EFI hints at unusually
warm temperatures for us over the weekend, generally 10 degrees
above normal for mid August. This will lead to a major heat risk
for Central Alabama late this week and over the weekend.

This pattern will promote a typically summertime convection
regime over the next couple of days with low to moderate (20-40%)
chances for showers and storms through Wednesday. Beyond
Wednesday, we will see reduced rain chances as the upper ridge
takes control and slightly drier air spread across the region.

Otherwise, patchy fog is expected early Tuesday morning as dew
point depressions narrow and condensation pressure deficits call
to 2-5mb. Locations that received rain earlier this afternoon and
evening will be most likely to see reduced visibilities out the
door Tuesday morning.

Expect VFR conditions to continue into early afternoon, except
where clouds build that will support chances for showers and
storms with best potential across the eastern portion of the
area, near BHM, EET and AUO where PROB30 groups are maintained
from 20z to 01z. This potential is too low to include at MGM and
TCL for this issuance. Showers and storms will gradually decrease
through the mid to late evening hours with VFR conditions
returning overnight.

Warm and humid conditions will help keep MinRH values generally
above 50% through the work week. Slightly drier air arrives over
the weekend, bringing minRHs down into the 40-50% range. However,

over the next seven days.

At 1206 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near
Blanche, or near Little River Canyon National Preserve, moving
southeast at 10 mph.

HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
         unsecured objects.

Locations impacted include...
New Moon, Broomtown, and Fullerton.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.

Conditions are favorable for the development of weak, brief funnel
clouds. This type of funnel cloud is harmless, but on rare occasions
they can briefly touch down, producing wind gusts over 50 mph. If a
funnel cloud is spotted move indoors and report your sighting to the
National Weather Service.

Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm.
Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe
