* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...A strong front will reach Kodiak Island 
  Thursday afternoon and remain over the island through at least 
  Friday afternoon. The low pressure system associated with the 
  front will approach the Island on Friday, and depending on the

  transition to rain or a rain snow mix. For now, there is high 
  confidence of blizzard conditions at the start of the event, but

THROUGH FRIDAY AFTERNOON...

* WHAT...Blizzard conditions possible. Total snow accumulations 
  between 6 and 18 inches possible. Winds could gust as high as 45 
  mph.

* WHERE...Kodiak Island Northeast.

* WHEN...From Thursday afternoon through Friday afternoon.

* IMPACTS...Visibilities reduced to one quarter mile or less due to 
  blowing snow. Whiteout conditions are possible and may make travel 
  treacherous and potentially life-threatening. Travel could be very 
  difficult. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce 
  visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the Thursday 
  evening and Friday morning commutes. Gusty winds could bring down 
  tree branches.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...A strong front will reach Kodiak Island 
  Thursday afternoon and remain over the island through at least 
  Friday afternoon. The low pressure system associated with the 
  front will approach the Island on Friday, and depending on the 
  east-west positioning of the low may introduce warmer air and a 
  transition to rain or a rain snow mix. For now, there is high 
  confidence of blizzard conditions at the start of the event, but 
  low confidence on storm total snow due to storm positioning and a 
  potential transition over to rain.

A Winter Storm Watch for blizzard conditions means there is a 
potential for falling and/or blowing snow with strong winds and 
extremely poor visibilities. This can lead to whiteout conditions

* WHAT...Blizzard conditions expected. Total snow accumulations 
  between 8 and 16 inches. North winds gusting 40 to 50 mph.

* WHERE...Northeast end of Kodiak Island, including Kodiak City.

* WHEN...From 6 PM Thursday to 6 PM AKST Friday.

* IMPACTS...Visibilities reduced to one quarter mile or less due to 
  blowing snow. Whiteout conditions are expected and will make 
  travel treacherous.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Snow will develop Thursday evening and 
  quickly intensify through the evening hours. Conditions will 
  rapidly deteriorate along area roads with both white-out 
  conditions and accumulating snow. The worst conditions are 
  expected Thursday night through Friday morning. Temperatures at 
  sea level near the Gulf coast will warm to near or slightly above 
  freezing by Friday morning, and there could even be a little bit 
  of rain mixing in. There is quite a bit of uncertainty in when 
  precipitation will end, so there is a chance blizzard conditions 
  extend beyond Friday afternoon. This will also affect total snow 
  amounts.
