Winds this afternoon will gust out of the south 30 to 45 mph. - There is a 30 to 60 percent chance of light rain Wednesday morning mainly north of U.S. highway 12. - Winds will shift out of the west and northwest Wednesday morning and again gust 30 to 45 mph through the afternoon hours. - There is a 30% chance of light rain or snow Thursday. - High temperatures Saturday through Monday will be around 10 to 20 degrees above normal. && .UPDATE... Issued at 1210 PM CDT Tue Apr 7 2026 The ongoing forecast remains on track, with winds out the south to south-southeast gusting 25-45 mph. The highest readings are west of the Missouri River early this afternoon. && .DISCUSSION... Issued at 100 AM CDT Tue Apr 7 2026 As of 1 AM CDT, temperatures are in the mid teens to low 20s across much of the forecast area with winds out of the east to southeast between 10 and 15 mph. Winds will start to pick up this morning over central SD and spread east through the afternoon, gusting to between 30 and 45 mph as a low pressure system approaches the area. After today, temperatures are expected to be closer to normal for this time of year. Temperatures this weekend are expected to be 10- 20 degrees above normal. Winds will pick up again Wednesday, potentially gusting up to 45 mph in north central SD as the low pressure system crosses the area. Rain chances return tonight into Wednesday morning with 30-60% chances across northern SD. Chances for more than a tenth of an inch are still 15% or less, highest along the ND/SD border. More rain chances (20-35%) Thursday with another low. Accumulations are expected to be less than a tenth of an inch. More rain chances for the weekend starting Saturday morning with WAA induced showers followed by a low pressure system Sunday into Monday. The period of heaviest rain looks to be Sunday evening into early Monday morning. Chances of more than half an inch in 48 hours (starting Sunday morning, ending Tuesday morning) come in around 40-60% east of the James River, 20-40% west.
