Issued at 307 AM CST Mon Feb 10 2025 Increasing midlevel moisture this morning as westerly mid level flow traverses the Desert Southwest into the Central Plains and Mid Atlantic. Ahead of the negatively tilted upper trough progged to bring heavy snow to the area by Wednesday, a embedded vort max is forecast to bring QPF as far north as southern Kansas this afternoon into the evening period. Looking at forecast soundings over northeast Kansas, ample dry air is observed below 14k feet amid an area of lift between 850mb and 700 mb. This verifies with CAM solutions depicting a dry forecast until the evening when a weakening frontogenetical band tracks south into northern KS, developing a narrow band of light snow. Ceilings do lower at this point, however there remains ample dry air combined with weakening lift, leading to increased confidence for flurries at best through Tuesday morning. One final note to add is an area of frontogenetical banding that develops northeast Tuesday afternoon towards southeast Kansas, possibly as far north as Anderson and Coffey counties. Temperature profiles at this time are below freezing behind the front, increasing chances for light snow during the day time period. Any snow that occurs would be less than 1 inch. Elsewhere, dry conditions should continue until the evening period. In terms of the poignant storm system late Tuesday evening through the day Wednesday, there are no major changes in terms of timing and snow amounts. Latest ensembles overall are consistent in a higher swath of QPF amounts (mean of 0.4-0.6 inches) spread throughout the CWA, however decent variances between the 25th- 75th percentiles lend to some uncertainty in total snow amounts. Additionally, SLRs continue to trend lower on the NBM compared to the 50th percentile NBM, supported by CMC and other guidance that increases from 13:1 to 20:1 by late afternoon Wed. Based on these slight adjustments, snowfall totals range from 6 to 9 inches. Northerly wind gusts may also be a bit stronger than NBM is depicting with 75 percentile wind gusts up to 20 mph by Wednesday evening, resulting in some blowing snow potentially.
