Beyond the near-term, folks should stay weather aware this weekend
due to the expectation of a significant severe thunderstorm event
from late Saturday night into Sunday.

.NEAR TERM...
(Today and tonight)

While the morning will start out overcast and foggy, an upper level
ridge translates overhead while low-level southerly flow begins to
increase this afternoon. This should allow partly cloudy skies to
develop by the afternoon as fog and low clouds scour out through the
morning. Warmer temperatures are forecast today and will be in the
upper 70s and low 80s. For tonight, southerly flow continues to
become well established and overnight low temperatures will be
milder and in the upper 50s and low 60s.

.SHORT TERM...
(Saturday through Sunday night)

Breezy onshore winds and surging moisture is expected Saturday
ahead of the next frontal system. A very deep trough is forecast
to dive southward across the southern Plains into the Gulf Coast
states Saturday before just starting to become more positively
tilted as the associated storms move across our area. This setup
seems to be shaping up to be a potentially significant severe
weather event for our area Saturday night into Sunday morning.
Favorable jet dynamics, deep trough, and a strong low level jet
will combine with plenty of surface based instability as a broken
squall line of likely supercells pushes eastward across the area
ahead of a cold front. All modes of severe weather will be
possible along with locally heavy rainfall, but most concerning at
this time is the potential for strong nighttime tornadoes (EF2+).
A Moderate Risk for severe weather has been expanded eastward to
cover SE Alabama and portions of the FL Panhandle, while an
Enhanced Risk remains in place eastward into the
Apalachicola/Tallahassee/Moultrie areas. A Slight Risk remains for
areas further east between the outlooks for Sunday morning before
12z (Day 2) and after 12z (Day 3). This is expected to be one
round of storms pushing through the area from west to east during
the overnight hours Saturday night into the morning on Sunday, but
the SPC outlooks span 2 days because of the timing of the event
crossing 12z Sunday.

While Southeast Alabama and the FL Panhandle have higher
potential for severe weather than areas further east, all of our
FL Panhandle, western & central Big Bend (including Tallahassee),
and southwest Georgia counties have the potential for strong and
potentially long track tornadoes overnight Saturday night into
Sunday morning. This event could be especially dangerous since it
is forecast to occur in the overnight hours when folks are asleep.
Please please please encourage everyone to be prepared and have
multiple ways to receive warnings--even in the middle of the
night!!

The front itself is forecast to push through Sunday with cooler
and drier conditions in its wake. Lows Sunday night are forecast
to drop back into the 40s.

.LONG TERM...
(Monday through Thursday)

Cooler and drier conditions are forecast to kick off the long term
period in the wake of Sunday's cold front. Onshore flow returns on
Tuesday, kicking off a gradual warming and moistening trend across
the area ahead of the next frontal system which is forecast to
move through the area on Thursday.

VFR conditions are expected to prevail throughout the TAF period.
Wind and wind gusts will begin to pick up tomorrow morning with
gusts in the 20-30 kt range expected tomorrow afternoon. Cigs
across ECP/DHN will begin to lower throughout tomorrow ahead of a
line of severe thunderstorms tomorrow night.

.MARINE...
Issued at 1027 AM EDT Fri Mar 14 2025

Southerly winds will increase over the next 36 hours. By late this
afternoon, we will most likely issue a Small Craft Advisory.
Mariners should beware of a significant thunderstorm squall line
that will move across the northeast Gulf waters late Saturday
night into Sunday. Small craft are advised to remain in port for
the passage of the severe thunderstorm squall line.

From CWF synopsis...Southeast and then southerly breezes will
steadily freshen from this afternoon through early Sunday morning,
rising to near- gale conditions on Saturday night. A severe
thunderstorm squall line will pass the waters from late Saturday
night through Sunday morning, bringing high potential for severe
winds, waterspouts, and possibly some hail. Behind the squall
line, a cold front will bring a turn to westerly to northwesterly
winds Sunday night into Monday. A high pressure center will pass
across the waters on Monday night.

.FIRE WEATHER...

Good dispersions are expected across the area this afternoon as
southerly flow begins to become better established. Increasing
humidity should keep fire weather concerns on the lower side today.
Only areas of concerns today would be areas that have missed out on
rainfall over the last 7 to 10 days. Much stronger southerly winds
take hold on Saturday, especially across southeast Alabama and the
Florida Panhandle. Despite higher relative humidities, some local
pockets of elevated fire weather concerns could exist in areas that
have missed out on recent rains and will receive high dispersions on
Saturday. Widespread wetting rains are likely as a line of severe
storms moves through the region Saturday evening into Sunday.

.HYDROLOGY...
Issued at 345 AM EDT Fri Mar 14 2025

Isolated flash flooding is possible on Saturday night and Sunday
morning, as a severe thunderstorm squall line moves across the
region. The line will make steady progress eastward, limiting
duration of intense rainfall rates and therefore rainfall amounts.
Most places are forecast to get about 1-1.5 inches of rain, which
would generally not cause issues. However, if any parts of the
line temporarily slow down, then isolated flash flooding could
result.

Minor coastal flooding is possible along the shoreline of
Apalachee Bay on Saturday night and Sunday morning. Strong
southerly winds in advance of the Sunday cold front will push
water onshore, particularly along the north and northeast side of
Apalachee Bay. The normal tide cycle will be amplified this
weekend due to the upcoming full moon, so a lot will depend on if
the peak onshore push of water can overlap with the normal high
tide. Where these two occurrences overlap, then minor coastal
flooding would become a possibility.
