* WHERE...Portions of southeast Alabama, Big Bend and Panhandle 
  Florida, and south central and southwest Georgia.

* WHEN...From 10 PM EST /9 PM CST/ this evening to 10 AM EST /9 AM 
  CST/ Thursday.

* IMPACTS...Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin 
  is exposed to these temperatures. An extended period of freezing 
  temperatures could cause ruptured water pipes.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Wear protective clothing such as a hat, facemask and heavy gloves or 
mittens if you have plans to be outdoors.

The public forecast is in good shape. Precipitation encountered
the warm nose of air aloft as it got east into the Big Bend region
and Valdosta area, making sleet and freezing rain a bigger factor
than areas west and northwest of Tallahassee, which have been
mostly snow. Speaking of snow, some of the top snow amounts have
been from Washington County FL up toward Ozark AL. Midland City AL
came in with 8 inches, and a storm spotter 6 SE of Elba reported
8.75 inches.

EOX radar shows a sharp back edge to the precip, and this will
make its way east and southeast over the next 6 hours or so. Some
cooling aloft should take place before the precip ends, bringing a
last-gasp changeover to snow in places along the U.S. 319 corridor
which have struggled to get snow so far.

A consolidated list of snow and storm reports will be forthcoming
in the next hour.

.NEAR TERM...
(Tonight through Wednesday night)

KEY MESSAGES...

-Winter Storm conditions will spread across the Tri-State region
 this evening into tonight with increasing potential for
 significant snowfall and ice accumulation totals.

-Snowfall amounts have increased with forecast accumulations of 4
 to 6 inches from the Flint River Valley GA into Southeast AL and
 the Eastern FL Panhandle...With locally higher amounts
 possible...Visibilities may drop to 1/4 mile due to falling and
 blowing snow and the weight of snow on tree limbs may down power
 lines and could cause sporadic power outages. Accumulations
 ranging from less than an inch in the far Southeast FL Big Bend
 to 4 inches closer to the Flint River Valley GA.

-Across portions of the FL Big Bend and south Central Georgia,
 freezing rain ice accumulations around one tenth to two-tenths of
 an inch are forecast. There is a low to medium chance (20-40%)
 of significant and very impactful ice accumulation. If realized,
 significant impacts to trees and power lines are likely.

-Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become
 slick and hazardous. The hazardous conditions could impact the
 Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning commutes. In particular,
 from the Flint River Valley GA into Southeast AL and the Eastern
 FL Panhandle, driving may become very dangerous and potentially
 life threatening this evening into early tonight, especially if
 you get stranded without protection from the cold or a winter
 survival kit.

-Regardless of wintry precipitation, extremely cold temperatures
 and dangerous wind chills are expected overnight into Wednesday
 morning. Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin
 is exposed to these temperatures. Wear protective clothing such
 as a hat, facemask and heavy gloves or mittens if you have plans
 to be outdoors. Check on your neighbors, family, and friends;
 particularly the elderly or other vulnerable populations. Take
 care of any animals, pipes, or plants. Ensure portable heaters
 are used correctly. If you loose power, do not use generators or
 grills inside to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for the entire region through
late tonight and early Wednesday morning for significant snow and
ice accumulations. It's also very cold, with Extreme Cold Warnings
and Cold Weather Advisories also in effect through Wednesday
morning. Any winter weather will end from late tonight into early
Wednesday morning. The melting process may be slow on Wednesday
as temperatures slowly rise into the lower and middle 30s, but
full sunshine will also help. Any standing water will refreeze
by Wednesday night as temperatures drop into the upper teens and
lower 20s, with black ice possible.

.SHORT TERM...
(Thursday through Friday night)

A cold pattern will still be in place on Thursday morning as the
arctic airmass remains. Any residual areas of ice on area roadways
leftover from Wednesday could make some driving conditions hazardous
but as temperatures warm back above freezing, we should finally
clear out the last bits of ice and snowpack (if any) from the
region. The progressive upper level pattern will bring another cold
front through the region in the afternoon and evening, but aside a
stronger push of northwest winds, a colder airmass is not expected
and we should see temperatures a few degrees warmer on Friday
compared to Thursday values.

(Saturday through Monday)

Progressive upper level pattern continues into the weekend and early
next week. We'll finally warm up through the weekend and into Monday
with highs climbing from the mid to upper 40s on Friday to the low
to mid 60s by Monday and Tuesday. A week disturbances will pass
through the progressive flow leading to some chances for rain next
week but no frozen precipitation is expected

Back edge of wintry precipitation will continue east through the
remainder of the overnight hours, with precipitation ending at all
terminal by 12z. Clearing will also follow from west to east a few
hours behind the end of the precip. Guidance does show a return to
low clouds in the east by late afternoon, which may impact KVLD
and KTLH.

At 9 pm ET, Buoy 42036 was reporting wind gusts of 35 knots and
10-foot seas.

From CWF synopsis...A strong low pressure wave over the southeast
Gulf will exit east past the Bahamas early Wednesday. In its
wake, strong northerly breezes will prevail over the waters until
high pressure settles across the Southeast States later Wednesday.
A weak reinforcing cold front on Thursday will maintain moderate
northerlies through Friday. High pressure will pass by to the
north this weekend, so winds will clock around and become easterly
by Sunday.

A rare winter storm with heavy snow, sleet, and freezing rain
will affect nearly all districts through tonight. Precipitation
will all be done by sunrise Wednesday, but freezing temperatures
on Wednesday morning will delay the start of the thaw until late
Wednesday morning. A cold and dry air mass will prevail through
the end of the week. High pressure over the region on Thursday
will keep daytime dispersion in the fair to poor category. A dry
reinforcing cold front around Thursday night will bring a modest
increase in northerly breezes on Friday.

There are currently no flooding concerns through the forecast
period. The most impactful weather will be later today into tonight
when wintry precipitation moves through. Liquid equivalent values of
the wintry precipitation are generally expected to be less than 1"

see up to 1.5" of liquid equivalent precipitation.
