.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
As of 100 AM Monday...

Key Point:

* Wintry precipitation begins to overspread the region beginning
  early Tuesday morning

Surface high pressure briefly settles in today ahead of a potent
Winter Storm early Tuesday into Tuesday night.

Flow turning more westerly over the Upper Great Lakes this morning
will cut off moisture reinforcements for the stratocumulus deck
currently draped across much of the Middle Ohio Valley yielding
mainly just some thin upper level cloudiness by this afternoon.

Daytime highs will be near normal values, generally in the upper 30s
to lower 40s across the lower elevations.

Strong low level warm advection working into the TN valley by late
tonight will lead to increasing precipitation chances across our
south heading into Tuesday morning. May be able to get some
marginally above freezing air in overhead at H850 before 7 AM,
but generally think profiles aloft will remain largely below
freezing through the near term period. Coupled with initially
quite dry low levels would expect the precipitation type to stay
as mainly snow through the end of the near term period with wet
bulbing, although amounts will be fairly light through daybreak
Tuesday.

.SHORT TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT/...
As of 220 PM Sunday...

Models are starting to have decent agreement with a system that will
affect the region starting late Monday night or Tuesday morning. It
is looking like most of the region will start as snow, although
extreme southern West Virginia and southwest Virginia could start as
a mix of precipitation. The southern areas will most likely
transition over the rain during the day Tuesday. What still remains
uncertain is exactly how far north the warm wedge will get. This
could make a huge difference in the snowfall totals along and just
south of the I-64 corridor. The meso NAM and GFS show that the
Charleston to Huntington areas northward could stay all snow, while
the Canadian and ECMWF show the warm wedge could make it just north
of this area. There are also concerns with cold air getting
trapped along the southeast upslope area and the warm wedge
over riding that air and causing freezing rain. With some of the
area expected to get a significant snow, and possible ice in
the southeast upslope areas, will issue a Winter Storm Watch for
northeastern West Virginia down through the I-64 area.

Some models continue to show liquid equivalent precipitation of 1.5
to 2 inches over southwest Virginia and extreme southern West
Virginia. Therefore, if the transition to rain is fairly quick,
would be very concerned about the potential for flooding in this
area.

.LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
As of 1140 AM Sunday...

As as system exits off to the east Wednesday morning, models
show a potential loss of ice crystals in the clouds, leading to
the threat of some light freezing rain or drizzle for areas
that remain below freezing.

A warmer system will effect the area for late Wednesday into
Thursday. This system will push a cold front through the area on
Thursday. Models then diverge a bit for Thursday night, with
some showing an upslope snow event and others showing a
disturbance holding up the coldest air but producing some light
snow. Either way, a high pressure system should briefly build in
on Friday.

Models show yet another system is possible for Saturday into
Sunday. This system will need to be monitored for the threat of
flooding.

.AVIATION /06Z MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
As of 100 AM Monday...

IFR upslope stratus at BKW will persist into this
afternoon. Lake enhanced stratocumulus 025-035 across the
Middle Ohio Valley will slowly ooze to the southeast this
morning, before dissipating late morning into early afternoon
with loss of additional moisture support.

Through the afternoon and evening, clouds remain generally
above 100 (except at BKW). Clouds will build progressively from
the south ahead of a potent Winter system, but any
precipitation will occur after this set of TAFs.

Winds generally light and northwesterly through the day, turning
light and easterly overnight.
